@Mizmazzle Thanks, will have a look around. Fireworks not super important for 4th July. This will be our 5th time we spend the day in the US. Most memorable in Ocean Springs Mississippi and Ashland Oregon. Least nice in Desert Hot Springs (what a shithole)...

@Tobi ah!! I see. I thought you were looking for a sort of typical “Fireworks” type 4th of July experience in the mountains.

In that case, find a close hotel to Denver, rest up from the flight, then push deeper into the mountains!!

In the easy chair with my boots on, melted whiskey in my hand. Could'na been asleep for more than three hours...time to go to work again...

If fireworks are important, the most amazing show I've ever seen was after the Rockies baseball game. You go down to the field to watch them directly overhead. And you get to watch a baseball game before. Tickets used to be very affordable, not sure now.

Otherwise, I like those front range town ideas too depending on exactly what you and the family want to do. Idaho springs, Frisco, maybe even Breckenridge.

Other quaint towns I'd add are crested Butte and steamboat, but those might just be slight too far. In general I'd probably want to avoid i70 as much as possible on the 3/4 July.

@pechelman that’s a good idea. I was just going to say…stay downtown and rest a day or two. Lots of fireworks in the city. Check out the city a bit. Then get out of Dodge!!!

Rockies tix are really affordable. Great place to watch a game.

Going to finally catch a show at the Red Rocks in June. Super stoked! Any reccs or things to do around the area or tips/suggestions? I'm down for most things..

reccs specifically for the day of the show or the days before/after? how many days? staying in denver? have a car?

My biggest "tip" for red rocks shows is to make sure to bring a picnic and something comfy to sit on depending on the type of show and when it is. First time going there I didnt know this was an option.

@J-IV brother man!! What show are you going to??

There some cool bars and restaurants in down town Morrison. Could pregame there. It’s walkable up to the show from there if you don’t mind an uphill trek about 1.5 miles. I’ve done it plenty of times. Granted always in an altered state of mind.

Are you looking for things to do a couple days before and after the show? Or day/night of type fun?

The amphitheater is kind of remote by foot in the middle of a large park. If it’s not GA and you aren’t worried about parking, a bus from either the nearby hotel or various spots in Denver is a good option, unless someone is sober and can drive. Ubering kind of sucks there.

I can give you some good stuff to do later when I get off work.

Man ya'll are quick to the draw! I appreciate all the input so far!

We're looking at a long weekend so things to do before the concert - Parcel's is playing on a Monday. Very likely we'll have a car. I don't mind walking to the venue but my girl may feel differently.

Admittedly, then plan is bare bones for now but I figured I'll check it here before getting lodging. Seems like a good move to stay in Morrison?

@J-IV The Origin Hotel is fairly new and they have a shuttle that runs from there. Not super exciting some ways as it’s just off I70 but there should be fans there and there some stuff around it. I think there are a few places in Morrison proper, which is a charming town, but it’s a hike to get to and from the amphitheater from there. I’d stay in the city, maybe near Union Station at Rally, Maven, Oxford, or Kimpton and use a bus probably because there will be more to do around there.

If you stay downtown like McLain is suggesting you’ll have lots of fun options. Our historic jazz bar is called, El Chapultepec and it’s right downtown… walking distance from Union Station. My Brothers Bar is a cool historic bar where Kerouac used to hang out.

+1 on staying near Union Station like at the Oxford or something. I've always had a soft spot for the Cruise Room bar there too. Along the cocktail front, Death & Co and Hell or High Water (tiki) are favorites. There's a lot of food in the area as well to suit just about anything.

If you want to get a short hike in near red rocks, I've spent more time at Lair of the Bear than i can count, mostly to fish and mountain bike, so it also has a soft spot for me, but always enjoy walking along the running water not too close to roads (i.e. not clear creek).

If you want to checkout some IH gear, checkout Berkeley Supply. There's also a great optical shop just up the street that has JMM's if you're wanting to try any (Queen City Optical Provisions). Scot's amazing.

@Mizmazzle getting ready for our trip! We will start with a day in Reykjavik, arrive in Denver 3rd July, stay 4th, then some days glamping in Granby, Grand Teton via Lander, Yellowstone, then back with some Red Canyon and time in Salida and Boulder. 3 weeks all in all. Tried to find out if Berkely Supply will be open on the 4th July (but will likely not have time/inclination for shopping)...
Might even bring some heavier denim for the evenings/mornings since we are partly high up with cool nights...
