@Oaktavia I meant more along the lines of a clear polish/wax, would make them really pop and still showcase the patina. Mine are still very tight in the instep, don’t really feel like they’ve broken in at all. Hoping that changes!

@nrtphotos do you have a product you could recommend? I am nearly out of a jar of Saphir.

The instep for both pairs of Mr. Lous I have took a long ass time to finally break in. Then suddenly I had to start tightening the strap above the instep which surprised me. I went from having it on the second loosest hole for over a year to now the tightest hole on the strap. I hope that I can replace the insoles soon too.

Hi everyone! I am also thinking of adding a pair of these to my wardrobe once they restock here...

What can you tell me about heelslip? I tried a pair of Lofgrens the other day in half size up from my Red Wing size.. I felt like wearing my dads shoes as a toddler. I prefer a snug fit on my boots and feel very uncomfortable with heelslip. So how much is normal, or can an engineer also fit like a very snug laceless boot like a chelsea? My RW Classic Chelsea does not feel loose at all.

Heel slip is more of a feature with slip on engineer style boots. The trick is to find a secure fit in the forefoot so it doesn't feel sloppy. It reduces as the sole breaks in and moves with you when walking but it's always there. Anywhere from a quarter to half inch of heel lift is about what most people say. Slipping might imply the heel is rubbing on the back which is what you want to avoid.

@FlavourFade sounds like they are slightly too big. My engineers are the same size as my red wings

Yeah I hope that some of IH Germany gets some wescos this year so I can try them on.. I am a Red Wing guys all over but everytime I see engineers I get that urge to buy them. Maybe the Mr Lou is better for me anyway compared with the Lofgrens since I do not have the widest feet.

@FlavourFade I have both. The Lofgren in 10, Lou‘s in 9.5. the Lofgren has more room than the Lou. I would say they are quite similar in terms of sizing.

Thanks man. Here are a few more. They feel great to wear now. Leather finally soft and pliable. They used to be so rigid.

This sort of thing any cause for concern? Noticing the leather starting to show the stitching holes from behind the seam.

@pechelman shouldn't be anything to worry about in my opinion. just a sign that the hides are shifting a little as they're breaking in, those seams are triple stitched and the thread is tough AF! I'd be surprised if it shifts any more than that.

keep a weather eye on it though, if any of those stitches actually breaks then hit me up and we'll get them back to be repaired for you.

Thanks, @Ross. It's exactly what I was thinking as well; nbd.

Though I did buy these direct from Chris and would drive on down to see him if anything popped up, but figured with the large number of people here with these exact boots I might get a quick answer. Hope that's alright

Wonder if I could get some help on fit from folks with more experience than me. I just got these horsehide mister Lou boots in and not sure if I should size down a half size or not. They fit like a firm hand shake. Not to tight. I get a little slight heel slip on one foot. In the photos you can see where my toe comes to where my thumb is placed. I went with the same size as my red wing classic Chelsea 3190. Thanks.

Heel slip is a good thing and I'd be worried they are too small if you don't have any on the other boot. Don't worry about the toe so long as you have room. The instep is really the most important where the boot should fit snugly from just behind the widest part of your foot to just in front of the strap.

Do you have the insoles in right now?

I took them out in the foot with no heel slip and definitely felt roomier and snugness went away. I wouldn't say they are uncomfortably tight at the instep, but snug like a firm handshake. Just that little bit of heel slip in the right foot.
