Another day, another windmill... This one is part of a museum, but still regularly in use for flour production.
The museum centers around the cultural and naval history of the island.
The Wadden side of the island was known as the Reede van Texel, a roadstead on the sheltered side, used for the long distance routes.
As many shipwrecks occurred, and as the Wadden Sea seems to protect the sunken ships very well, divers make spectacular finds every now and then.
The most recent and most spectacular find was the Palmwood Wreck, which included a silk dress from the early 17th century:
Texel was the starting point for long distance travel, and there was this dude Jacob Roggeveen who started here and discovered a totally different island on the other side of the world, on Easter Monday.
In the nineties, there was a cultural exchange between the two islands, and the best sculptor from Rapa Nui was invited to make Texel's own Moai.
Here it is, facing the Easter Island:
A final picture from the beach, we're off to Amsterdam tomorrow, and then back home.

great job mate ! -
nice job guys. Great pics with the art and I wish I would have met up with Scott to drop off the MR when we exchanged just a state away.
-
Thanks for having me @tody it was a pleasure. Looking forward to return the favor when you make it to Munich - Remember to not make it a one day trip!
No worries @Tago-Mago , I had my fair share in October already. Actually loved the Päffgen at Lommerzheim though. Not too bad for a Kölsch
The strawberry margarita we had tonight was certainly worth it!
PS: Proud to have worn the legendary MRMF for a minute haha. The R stands for rad right?
Looking forward to see the tour go on.Quick snapshot of the Kölner Dom on the way back to the hotel

@weftyarn oh wow. that's a nice view of the Dom
-
@louisbosco A nice guy in a red leather jacket showed me the way haha
-
@weftyarn took me for a great meal too. good lad.

Nothing much to report about - it was a busy working week.
Running errands today, including picking up my wife's Moc Toes after a fresh resole from Schuhgott. German members will be familiar with the name, he's the go-to guy for Red Wings over here. He has since developed his own shoe brand, but that's solely Monkey Boots which is nothing for me. -
@louisbosco I can also confirm @weftyarn is s stellar chap!! Hope to make it to Germany one day to hang out with the bounty of fine German folks I’ve met around these parts!
