@GraemeE I’ll definitely check this out. I’m sure you’ve probably watched it but in case you haven’t, the PBS documentary “Country Music” by Ken Burns is outstanding too. Thanks for the recommendation

@SKT technically I've seen it but I don't feel like I got to fully absorb it since I watched it while on night duty when my youngest 2 were newborns

Thanks for the reminder that I need to watch that without being in zombie mode

In light of recent events, I decided to revisit this fantastic series on the history of Palestinian/Israeli conflicts.

Across six episodes, it runs for roughly 20 hours, so it's quite a commitment, but for anyone wanting a comprehensive yet accessible history of the geopolitical and historic events that have led us to where we are today, I couldn't recommend this series more.

I won't express my own opinions on matter as per the no political discourse rule of this forum, but to my understanding, this series remains as unbiased as possible and tries its best to empathise with (and criticise) both sides in equal measures.

I'd also recommend those that are interested in Middle East politics check out CONFLICTED. It is hosted by an orthodox Christian (Thomas Small) in discussion with a Salafi Muslim, Aimen Dean (a former Al Qaeda operative turned spy for MI6/SIS until the September 11 attack on NYC). It has more of a focus on understanding Islamist* Jihadist** terrorism - their mindsets, motivations, and the wider regional and global contexts and regional history in which they operate.

It's been going on for 4 years now, so there is a deep well of fascinating episodes to browse. The latest season (the fourth) has been particularly interesting, as it zooms in on the lives and philosophies of the Muslim writers and thinkers who have most inspired Islamist fundamentalism, before moving on to discuss their modern incarnation in the Muslim Brotherhood and its offshoots.

If you're just interested in Israel/Palestine, then there are episodes on that in Season 3, plus a 'response episode' to the recent revival of the conflict.

                  • here used to denote those that believe that Islam offers a political ideology or system to be applied to society, nation states, or globally. Not all Muslims are Islamists or would agree that Islam should be applied in this way.

** here used to denote those that believe that Islamism as a political ideology should be spread through violent means and undertake to join in that mission. Not all Islamists are Jihadists.

                  Take the dive...

@neph93 said in New guidelines regarding political posting - All members should read…:

The Member Guidelines thread (https://www.ironheart.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=10395.new#new) has been updated with the following:
Iron Heart is an international brand, and this forum also has a global reach. We are proud of that. For the forum to be a pleasant, inclusive place, where people from all over the world can come to discuss the brand, denim and other interests, we have always had guidelines that ask our users to refrain from posting comments likely to cause unnecessary conflict or create a negative environment. This includes posting about themes like politics, religion and other controversial issues. Our opinion is that there are other places on the internet for this kind of discussion. In addition, the hostility and ugliness often found in comment sections around the internet is not something we need or want here.
Unfortunately, there has recently been an increase in this kind of posting. This has begun to include posting of clothing or other artefacts showing support for different political groups or ideologies. We do not want to act as censor for our member’s posts, but we will not be able to tolerate people promoting their political ideologies in this way any longer, for the reasons described above.
For the record, the forum and the brand believe in equality for all people, regardless of gender, race, sexuality or nationality. As such, we take an especially dim view of overtly nationalistic, fascist, or intolerant, groups, ideologies or viewpoints being promoted here. As a general rule though we would like all users to refrain from posting any direct or implied political content.
                    Thanks for reading.

Discovering IronCast set me down a satisfying path of semi-related podcast discovery but I'm at an unfortunate point where I have run out of material and would love suggestions for more

Over the last couple years I've enjoyed Heddels Blowout (and now Neverrong), Garmology, Articles of Interest, Denimhunters and Customer Service

Are there any others I should be checking out in a similar vein?

@deadendpro I actually discovered JC as a result of his commentaries on modern wrestling.

Followed it casually as a kid in the late 90s/early 2000s, and got back into it again about 10 years ago as means of reconnecting with old friends.

We'd follow the independent scene and go to local shows together when possible, and were really excited for AEW when it launched... I still watch weekly when possible, but my interest has waned in recent months... Corny's AEW reviews are often more interesting than the product itself though, most of his criticism is spot on, and it's made me appreciate and understand the specific nuances of the art form that can make it great.

I tell people that 90% of pro-wrestling nowadays is garbage, and as fans we accept that because the other 10% is magic, lightning in a bottle, that makes sitting through countless hours of bullshit worthwhile 😆

Continuing the samesies, AEW enthusiasm eventually gave way for me too (though I also watch each week) as Jim and Brian’s takes are much more enjoyable than the spot-fest that is AEW programming. Do you know if we have a thread here to expound on all the wrestling here? If not, we might just need to start a thread! Lol
