@Mr-Linz if I'm being sensible, and if I can find one, I'd be tempted by an Omega CK-859.

If I'm not being sensible, I like the Omega Aqua Terra Ultra Light, but that's more expensive than a Nautilus. On a list of decreasing prices, I also like the Patek 5212 Weekly Calendar, the Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Chronograph, and the Chopard Alpine Eagle Cadence. The LUC XPS and Alpine Eagle XPS would also be on the list around about that point.

The pricing on that AT Ultralight is utterly insane. I love Omega but not a chance I’d drop that kind of money on one.

@Anesthetist I agree that the pricing is insane, and that's why I don't have one. The ceramic Planet Ocean is 40% of the price and has a similar titanium movement.

My guess is that the cost is in the movement, the only other brand that makes them out of titanium is Richard Mille, and they make insanely priced Omegas look reasonable.

@Graeme Wow mate, there's some heavy hitters in there. Actually my buddy had his eye on the CK-859. It's a lovely watch.

I remember last time I was in the Omega Boutique seeing the Ultra Light and couldn't get my head around the pricing. If those watches were 20K I think they'd sell a lot, but at 50K why would you get one over something more obviously well made? Unless I'm missing something unique about the watch? Love the grey and colored accents though, very cool

@Mr-Linz I think that the cost is in the R&D necessary to put them together. The boutique in Birmingham said that ten had come through the UK, and that the country represents 10% of Omega's market, so they're very low volume, which probably puts the production costs up.

The new Planet Ocean is around $22K, but I don't expect that to be a big seller either. It's nearly twice the price of a Glashütte Original SeaQ or Fifty Fathoms. I suspect that it's going to be a limited run for bragging rights.

I'd agree about the CK-859. Shame Omega dropped it so quickly.

@Graeme Yikes 22K for a planet ocean is wild!

I love Omega but it sometimes feels like a headless chicken with the amount they do.

So sexy. The lumerals, the big date (surprised its asymmetry doesn’t drive @Giles mad 😂), the restrained use of gold accents. A masterpiece.

@Giles I like the date at 4 because you get the right side marker. I also like the lugs being squared off rather than running all the way to the bezel. Is there a more eloquent name for that design? Reminds me of a 62MAS but it has crown guards....and that subtle branding detail on the back of the second hand....🤤
this wasn't on my radar, but it is now...

I don't dislike it because it is parallel with the 9-3 axis, I don't like a date at 4 when it is parallel with the 10-4 axis...

I could also be persuaded by one of these....

I'm a fan of the SeaQ, particularly the panoramic date version. I took a look at them when they first came out and I remember comparing one to a Fifty Fathoms, and the Glashütte Original was better finished.

That said, the Blancpain Bathyscaphe in titanium is a lovely thing, though @Giles is allergic to the position of the date window. On the bracelet it's still 60% of the price of the Planet Ocean. It's also a lot slimmer than the SeaQ and rather light. The movement isn't as pretty, though.

                                            Bathyscaphe Titanium

Whilst I was admiring it, the dealer insisted I look at the very green and very rare chronograph they had in.

                                            Bathyscaphe Chronograph

I think at the end of the day you can spend a premium on the brand, finishing, design, or technology. Some people get excited about a bit of hand-anglage on the movement. Others turn their noses up at anything that isn't a Rolex or Patek. I like innovations in horology. You pays your money and all that.
