Not shure what watch threat to put this in, but since you do not have to sell a kidney or one of your children to get one I guess this is the appropriate one.

Seiko SPB 257J1 "Captain Willard" special edition.

The SPB 237J1 Version is allready on the way to me as well.

@Cole Goes with that shirt well. I love a turtle, but man that case is big. I don't exactly have dainty wrists and they're still a bit wide for me. I really wanted the JDM anthracite bezel one but they went extinct before I could pull the trigger.

@WhiskeySandwich It looks bigger on that picture then it is in reality. I've got a 7" wrist and it is just fine and wears very comfortable as a bonus. But the design is realy a hit or miss. You either like it or not and it is definetly a lot less versatile then my Omega Seamaster.

@Cole dang, it looks good on you and my wrists are like closer to 7.3 or something. I don't think it looks big in your pic, it looks good. I tried one on someplace after looking at a million pictures and thought it felt huge on there. Maybe its just because I'm used to 40-42mm cases.

@IrishHeart yeah man!! Looks great on the brown leather!! Mine came on a bracelet when new and I can’t even imagine it that way now. But it’s such a classic watch it would look great on literally anything.

@Mizmazzle I think you made a great choice to change the strap. I just think it looks better with a leather strap.

                    Allways happy to help. 😉

I'll post the SPB237J1 as soon as it arrives from Japan next week, just to give you some more food for your head. 😉

Nice, @Matt 🙂 The rose gold bezel ring has something.

But two are enough for me. A third one would trigger my wife. 🙂

So as expected, I’m in the rabbit hole currently and have made it my mission to pick one of these Seikos to be my first. I love the Captain Willard’s that have been mentioned above but have also turned my eye to a few more budget friendly options.

The top one is vintage and is what I’m leaning towards but the second one is a 55th anniversary model commemorating the first Seiko 5 Sport. It’s the least expensive of the bunch but is still pretty cool imo (uneducated as that may be)…

After the first high of receiving the SPB237J1 is over I am honestly dissapointed by Seiko's QC.

The bezel inlay and the chapterring are misaligned. The pictures below are one click difference.

If it was a watch from a local dealer I would simply return it and ask for a replacement with better alignment. But I had this one send over from Japan and even though the seller is willing to pay the return shipping cost, I allready payed Import value added tax and custom fees and the german custom agency is not know for giving back money willingly.

This sucks, since the watch realy is beautyful, but this misalignment can not be unseen.

@Matt definitely the top one for me, but depending on how ‘budget friendly’ they are, they are different enough to get both, and put one away for Christmas!

@Cole that’s frustrating. 99% of people will never notice, especially on the wrist, but it’s the type of detail that can drive a watch geek mad once you have spotted it.

@Cole On some watches that ring can be removed and then installed so that it will align correctly and from my understanding a fairly simple fix. Might want to check with a local watchmaker to see what can be done before giving up hope.

I have a watch with a similar issue and it drives me a bit nuts…It is on my list of things to fix when I send it in for a service.
