Nah - have other stuff that needs sorting… Cuff fraying, hem needs re-chainstitched, buttonholes re-inforced, and so on... Just wanna make sure I can get through 6 months of wear sans problème next year...

I was reading his thread because it seems I as a stacker/recovering single-cuffer am in the extreme minority here.  I was stricken by the post claiming cowboys and bikers used to cuff their jeans, so we should too, as it is philosophically interesting but not at all how I think. I wanted to probe this and see how others think on the matter–it was a cool post and well-received, but I differ with it. When I cuffed jeans, it was because I liked the look or was wearing light shoes that I wanted to protect from indigo. Not an homage to anything.

Many cowboys also bloused their jeans, tucking them inside their boots, to reduce the amount of dirt they would pick up. This is also true of bikers in the early 20th century.  Should we follow that tradition as well?  What about tucking shirts in?  (Not THIS cowboy!) Must wearing "period costumes" necessarily follow from an appreciation of vintage styled and constructed clothing, or have we selected a subset of vintage style that is timeless and thus can be worn many different ways in many different eras?  It's an interesting thought. For this iconoclast, vintage style clothing and how it was worn within the era of their invention are orthogonal, and I can appreciate and wear vintage clothing without trying to recreate, say, a fifties greaser look or some other "costume."  Though I think the "costumes" generally look cool.

Forgive my idle martini-fueled thoughts in the airport waiting for my flight 🙂

        Think it, be it.

I always cuff my jeans.  My Mister Freedom ones seem to always be extra long so I end up cuffing them pretty high and then folding the top down a bit.  Here is an example of my MF Californian Lot 64: Okinawa Issue.

Some jean/trouser styles I don't cuff, particularly a denim chino like this with a wide hem

I used to hate cuffing.  and then i realized my lil legs made it so i had to.  so i did for a decade and i loved it.

now my pair of 634 OD's honeycombs shortened the length of my hem (next time i'll insist on a 30 inseam instead of a 29 at self edge) so i dont cuff those pants.  wish they had a cuff..

I was able to snag the last size 40 of these off IH Germany. Very excited to own this special pair of jeans. Only one question. I'm not too much of a cuffer, but should I give it a solid try on this pair first? Feels like it may be sacrilege to hem these.

@MattyJ I would recommend doing what makes you happy and will make the jeans more comfortable for you. If you don’t like cuffing and don’t wear them because of it, then you won’t be happy with the jeans.

I hemmed mine and many others have too. Ultimately it’s your decision though 🙂

Let us know how it works out.

@MattyJ congratulations! @goosehd is right (of course); cuff or hem as you wish. The only sacrilege is having these and not wearing them 🙂

I like the way a cuff breaks the denim and boots a really nice look! Especially a Tokyo cuff with IH denim. It’s all personal preference. So you can ask 100 peeps here and will get 101 answers 🙂 so if you don’t like a cuff you got your answer. But that’s just my 2 cents! You can also try the option @endo gave you try them cuffed for a while.

I wish it weren’t the case. I tried wearing my newly bought 14oz broken twill for a few days thinking I’d leave them un hemmed … just doesn’t work for me.

necro-bumping this old thread to save the 634-A thread from being taken over by cuffing discussion. If appropriate, mods feel free to delete my post, move the posts here, or ignore me entirely 😃

To add to the discussion, have tried cuffing a couple of times, but never for very long. Instead I hem a little long, get them to stack a little, and then can cuff them on occasion if I want. I dont like the crease/fade from a cuff and also I'm continually thinking about all the dirt and stuff caught in the cuff that will wear through the fold faster than if they were hemmed. Maybe one day i'll commit to a cuff.
