Giles and Paula's Great Retirement Adventure
-
Plans for the next few days. We are currently in Portosin, Galicia, later today will cruise up and around Cap Finisterre to Muxia where we will meet up with Eddie and Beth Tejada, our friends and owners of Aitora, our Iron Heart retailer in North West Spain. On Wednesday we make our way to A Coruña, for our 200 engine hour service. It's a tad early, but by the time we cross The Bay of Biscay (which we plan to start late Thursday) and get to Brest, we'll have dove over 200 hours on the engines and we don't want to invalidate the warranty. The weather is looking good for the crossing, which we reckon will take about 36 hours. We will have lots of zero connectivity......

@Giles That'll be quite some journey home. I guess you both have some big sailing trips coming up if you reckon 400 by end of the year?

Was an absolute treat catching up with you guys!...definitely have to do it again soon
Enjoy La Coruña and safe travels back!! -
In A Coruña waiting for the Volvo Penta service guys. It's a good job we have them booked for today, because the port engine threw another fault about 30 mins out of A Coruña, and the bow thruster went AWOL too. So we had to dock in a strong side wind with one engine and no bow thruster. It was hairy. The fault in the bow thruster has been traced to a blown fuse on the charging circuit, so that is an easy fix. Our guess is that it was caused by a spike in shore power somewhere. One of the jobs on my list when we get home is to install an isolating transformer (it's at home waiting to be fitted), that will do lots of things, one of which is to isolate the boat from shitty shore power.
We popped into a local dive store to ask where the nearest chandlery was and @Madame-Buttonfly bought me this to remind me of the trip home....
It's a reel and line to attach to my Safety Market Buoy when we are doing our safety stop when diving. The most important criteria when choosing it is that it matches my Apeks torch
The dive store is also hunting down a couple of those fuses for me....
Here's the bust one:

Yesterday on the way into A Coruña, we passed this...
It is The Tower of Hercules and is the oldest extant lighthouse known in the world. It as been there since the 1st century and is based on the original plans for the Lighthouse of Alexandria.
Paula has gone off to see it this morning as I wait for the engineers, she has promised to take lots of photos. If we get a delay on the engine and have to stay here for longer than today, I will get over and take a look myself....

keep my fingers crossed, that all is good and you can continue the trip as planned!
-
Fingers crossed G! Cause we need G Sparrow out there
