@Matt maybe, but there are so many candidates!

Something very different to my last post on this thread, but a cool name and a fun Los Saicos cover.

@goosehd What a really great clip. Don’t believe I’ve seen it before. Thanks for posting it. While Hendrix is universally applauded for his guitar playing,I think he’s sometimes under appreciated for his singing.

@Jett129 In my opinion, he was the complete rockstar and mastered it all from the obvious guitar skills, to his singing, and to his overall appearance and his public persona.

I still find it hard to believe that he was much more accepted overseas than in the U.S., although with the issues we had in the U.S. during that timeframe can understand some of the reasons behind it. It's a tragedy in so many ways capped off by his premature death, and one could only imagine what would have happened if he had lived for a longer time.

@goosehd Just curious as to why you feel that Hendrix was more accepted overseas than in the US,as he was insanely popular, selling out pretty large venues in the US.

@Jett129 From my understanding, his first hits were in the UK (66) a year before the US and he only became popular in the US after the Monterey Pop Festival (67) a year after his UK hits. I don't know if this was due to the blues/rock bands having larger successes in the UK and foreign markets than in the US.

If I recall correctly a lot of the blues artists were also travelling to the UK at that time also. BB King was one of the experiencing success in the UK when at home his music was not as readily accepted.

This may have been due to racial tensions and bigotry concerning music and how many performers weren't given air time due to the colour of their skin...

Now, I can be completely wrong on all accounts and love delving into this kind of history to learn more.

...and thank you for asking that question. Now I'm digging into some of the facts or the British Blues Explosion of the early 60's and how blues artists from the States were going to the UK to gain fame.

There was a great interview with BB King on his Sirius radio station about this timeframe and I should see if I can find it. Was lucky enough to see him play live once (wish it was more).

Axis was already out and to me and my friends he was a really big deal. BB King, and Albert King were playing at the Fillmore East from time to time and were always well received. But once again I’m 15 living in NYC and probably not really aware of what was going on outside of my world.
