Yeah, that happened to us in April just before our week long trip to Shenandoah Valley Natl Park and it will be a while before we make it back East to see it.  You’re right on about Pitt though.  We were pleasantly surprised.

Ohiopyle was really nice but really crowded unfortunately.  We could have dealt with that but there were only 4 face masks in the entire park and they were in my family and me.  Really frustrating as the trails were kind of tight and the falls areas were a mob scene.

So far Nelson Ledges St Pk here in OH has been my favorite.  Put that one on your list if you haven’t been there.  Those rocks were super fun to get into.

The FLW houses aren’t open now, just the grounds.  Kentuck Knob was my favorite tour.  We did that right after Falling Water but we were the only ones there.  We had a private tour.  The benefit of lesser known attractions I guess.

Taking it easy this weekend.  Should be uneventful.  If something crazy happens with the laundry or my crossword I’ll let you know.

Last night I was sitting by the fire and I happened to look at the campsite to my left.  It looked like a single tree was strung with green xmas lights with a handful of red ones peppered in.  I was confused because the tree was about 50’ tall with the lowest branches about half way up.  Fireflies?  Nope. Those are yellow and blink.  Drunk?  Not yet.

I grabbed the kids and wife to confirm I was not hallucinating and they saw it too.

A quick internet search revealed it was foxfire, a bioluminescent fungi that I’ve never seen or heard of before.  I couldn’t get a good pic because it was very dark and my iPhone is an iPhone.  It was pretty magical.

                        Russian Glowcap
                        Ration Name: MUSHROOM E
                        Initial Taste: Fairly Tasty
                        Stamina Recovery: Special (Recharges battery!)
The Russian glowcap is a kind of luminescent fungus - a mushroom that glows in the dark. It is bioluminescent, just like a firefly. It uses the so-called luciferin-luciferase reaction. To put it simply, luciferin reacts with luciferase in the presence of magnesium two plus ions, breaks it down into oxyluciferin and carbon dioxide. The carbonyl groups in the oxyluciferin are initially in an electrically excited state. When they return to their base state, they give off light.

It charges up Snake's batteries when he eats it, much to Para-Medic's confusion.

The striking part was  that it was pitch black but for a single tree glowing in the middle of the woods.

5 hour drive to Kentucky today, just out side of Cincinnati OH.  We’re only here for 1 week then we head further in to KY to check out Mammoth Cave Natl Pk.  This site has a herd of Bison on the grounds.  We’ll check that out tomorrow.

                            Have a wonderful night…

It’s a big biker destination apparently.  I imagine it being like an 80’s tv show where biker gangs pillage the town repeatedly until  someone like The A-Team or Knight Rider shows up to stop them.

The general store was definitely the town attraction.  It had a ton of cool stuff.  There was another small shop that reminded me of the old head shop we used to frequent in high school, Karmic Connection.  That’s where we used to get all our tie dyed band T-shirt’s and various 90’s alternative youth paraphernalia.  I bought some cool incense to support the town.  And relive my smelly youth.

There’s been a bunch of families at this campground with lots of kids that we thought would have been in school by now.  Further investigation conducted by my wife, the children and me has revealed they’re all homeschooled and are staying here to visit the nearby Creation Museum.  The beautiful irony is that this campground is a national  historic site that boasts some of the first major archaeological digs of large prehistoric mammals.

They seem nice and the kids enjoy having friends.  We’ve found in our roadschooling research that many of the people who do what we’re doing are super religious.

When my wife isn’t listening I encourage the kids to tell their friends we’re Satanists.  They think it’s hilarious.
