I’m far from a front line worker, but I do work in healthcare. I’m a software product manager for radiology and pathology software. I was in a call today with an ED physician. He’s in Oregon, but is from NYC and has a lot of colleagues and family there.

It was wild to me to hear that nearly 100% of patients are testing positive. Injuries from skateboarding, car accidents, heart attacks it doesn’t matter.

My sister is a doctor in nyc and says the same thing. She said it’s basically pointless to test them now. They’re either symptomatic or asymptomatic, but they’re all positive.

Stories are starting to come out that supermarkets in my area are having food stolen. People can’t afford food and donations can’t keep up.

My neighbor saw it at the local store yesterday twice in the same grocery run. She said they didn’t look like they were from around here. I suspect they are coming in from poorer neighborhoods close by.

He didn’t get into that too much. He said that whatsapp and Twitter are being heavily used to keep up to date on what’s working and what’s not. People that would have normally been put on ventilators are now being given oxygen and laid on their stomach. Fascinating how technology is assisting in changing practices rather than people being rigid in their knowledge. It really feels like all hands on deck.

I've been saying this for a while. We are all having to adapt our practices on a day to day basis. I had a conference call today with our lawyers, and a national conference call yesterday with national lawyers. The way in which the Courts operate, that health and social care workers discharge our duties, and the way in which the amazing sea of volunteers are operating has changed beyond recognition.

It is shocking to hear about NYC's stats. I wonder what the tested antibody rate there is?

Well, the civil unrest has started. This was outside my stepsons apartment yesterday.

He was unloading groceries behind the black car in the middle of the photo when shots broke out between two groups. He had to hide behind his car helplessly.

My stepson, his wife and daughter are considering moving in with us.

Looks like the windmills I’ve been yelling at are actually giants after all

@DougNg I'm sitting in on a multi agency conference call tomorrow involving police, and adults/children's services safeguarding teams. We usually share Intel on county lines drug gangs and domestic abuse cases. It will be interesting to see how the balance shifts. We are anticipating a spike in DV and huge drop in gang activity as people are forced to stay home in close proximity.

The police are already predicting that this pandemic will change how criminals operate in future, and what types of crimes will be prevelant. It is crazy to think of the extent that this has changed so many things so quickly.

I live in Charlotte, NC. yesterdays news was that domestic violence cases are on the rise. I sort of expected that.

Careful. That sounds like an pretty good CV for a ministerial role in the DoH. In fact, you’re over-qualified…

@Giles don't you believe it! As one of lf American cousins pointed out, less police prescence means more opportunism. Elders will still be active, its the kids that run the drugs that are being kept off the streets by parents that are more present.

You can be certain that the elders will be thinking up creative new ways of carrying out business, just as we all are. The fact that couriers aren't requiring signatures, for example, provides opportunity to move stuff around less hindered. They are clever fer's.
