It looks great as-is, but you’ll have to be really careful washing. Since I don’t have a careful bone in my body for flannels, I would size up to be able to machine wash and dry. I think if you hand wash and line dry, the sizing is great.

Finally I could take some fit pics and I started to doubt whether I've sized wrong. I was opting for a trim fit but dunno if it's too small on me now. What do the UHF gods think? Is it a keeper?

I think after like 2 washes, its going to be way too small on you.  I always account for that.

Many thanks for the feedback, everyone! I've come to the conclusion that it is too small/short on me, indeed. Such a shame but it is what it is.

I am loving this flannel. The pattern. The feel. The weight. The heavy-duty snaps. I can't wait for it to cool off in Tennessee.

I'm a bit concerned about losing length after my first wash. A question to the UHF veterans around here: What sort of results have you gotten doing a machine wash followed by line drying? I am hoping to be able to do a cold machine wash on the gentle/hand cycle (no spin) and line-drying. Would that be sufficient to avoid unwanted shrinkage, or should I just hand wash in the sink?

I have yet to use a cold machine wash on my UHF’s but in the future I might. I did wash two of my UHF’s on a warm machine wash/hang dry twice and got about a half inch of shrink. If your UHF is smaller than you’d like then a cold hand wash/hang dry might be better

Do this and any shrinkage will be somewhere between zero and negligible.

This is basically what I do, and I have experienced zero (or negligible) shrinkage.  I tend to treat them the same as I do denim.  I turn them inside out, wash on gentle setting with minimal spin cycle, and hang dry right side out, under a ceiling fan, from a large coat hanger.  This seems to facilitate effective moisture evaporation through the UHF.  I can’t back this methodology with any type of research or data analysis, but it works so I keep doing it [emoji1787]

A little late to the party, but this is the fit before any washing. Taken only today which means I haven't had the chance to wear this out yet!

By the way, I'm 170cm/70kg with a chest that's approximately 40" (wearing a size L). For me, it's just the fit that I wanted 🙂

It’s a great fit. A little room everywhere, but not too much. You can hot wash now or just leave as is. Congrats.

From the photo that looks like a brilliant fit. The length in the body and arms is perfect whereas on an XL I think it would be too long.

What do you want to layer with? I wear a-shirts or tees with mine.

EDIT: looking at the photo’s again I can see it is a little trim over the shoulders and you’d need to be careful with washing. Still looks good to me though.

Yeah the shoulder dont line up to where my shoulder breaks.  I usually wear a heavy tshirt or long sleeve.  Also i like it a bit longer, so i think the xl will work.

It looks ok, but it feels a bit snug on me with no shirting on.

This is wise. The side seams are important too.

It is necessary to be aware of the potential for shrinkage in these shirts but it is important not to exaggerate either. With careful washing and air drying the shrinkage is somewhere been zero and negligible. If you hot wash and tumble dry you may lose a cm or at silly temps two. For a lot of people with a regular fit then even that is fine. The most they’ll shrink is half a size.
