Yep, same guys are making the coping stones, so they'll come in a little cheaper.

And if you see the damage to the 200-year-old cills on the main house, you'd understand why I'm not at all bothered.  A house is a handmade thing, it can never be perfect, I for one celebrate its idiosyncrasies…..

I'm on my way home from Cairo at the moment, can't wait to see them in situ...

Are those timber/metal combo joists based on 2x4’s? They’re sexy.

They are what are called posijoists.

            Here is the sales blurb:

Listed below are just some of the benefits of using Posijoists.

Open web system gives almost uninterrupted access for the passage of services.
Minimum 72mm wide flanges provide a large area for the fixing of floor deck and ceiling.
Depth compatible with solid joist sizes.
Made to measure, reducing on site wastage.
Minimal shrinkage or swelling meaning a squeak free floor.
Reduction or elimination of surface run pipework.
            Lightweight construction.
Erected in approximately 50% of the time required for conventional joists.
Can be top chord supported onto steel beams.
            DWB Posijoists are PEFC Certified.

Although they will appear more expensive than traditional timber joists, the savings become evident as the building work progresses.

Thanks Clint, I'm hoping I can get it waterproof (at least the roof- possibly not the window or doors, but I can bodge that with tarps in the short term) within the next 3 weeks.  Then I can get the floor liquid screeded, that takes ages to dry enough to be able to lay tiles, so it is on the critical path…..

If it is any consolation, I applied for permits about a year ago......(I'm really ignoring a lot of what I got permission for, but I am confident that I am doing it better than what I have permission for)..... 😶 ::) ???

I see worse things on the road here on a daily basis.  In Houston, I saw worse things on an hourly basis…

@Chris  Slightly open to interpretation, but a Police Officer or a DVSA representative might well take a dim view of Giles' load.

I once had to 'straddle' a concrete paving slab at ~70mph on the outside lane of a motorway (Freeway), fortunately I didn't hit it. A few people a few hundred meters down the road where not quite so lucky given the resultant destruction I saw.
