It will be awesome for blocking the winter winds…I don't know if you notice it, but it seems like the wind is always blowing there.  It's one of the things I first noticed when I moved there.

When I lived there, I would ride my motorcycle south of the cities around Faribault, Red Wing, and Prescott and the winds could sometimes be fierce.  Those pants would have been awesome for riding!

Iron Heart Minnesota (not a real place) here with a quick PSA re: these whipcord cargos.

It's 34 degrees today, sunny and a bit windy. It's an interesting temp in Minnesota where you will see people outside wearing anything from slender ladies in full snowmobile suits, to basement dwelling mouth breathing overweight men in shorts and t-shirts.

I, having fairly recently developed a decent fashion sense am wearing Iron Heart, including the recently acquired IHDR cargo's.

For anyone with a "few" bucks to spare and who lives in a cooler climate should jump on these pants. They are warm and absolutely windproof. I will be wearing these a ton this winter, they are an engineering marvel.

          TLDR: buy these

              Haha @jordanscollected

I remember early in my time in Minneapolis I would see people walking around in sprint heat waves still wearing hoodies, as well as all of the things you mention.

              Think it, be it.

In college we’d try to guess the weather by looking outside to see what people were wearing.  It wasn’t easy.    There was always a big dude with shorts, T-shirt, flip flops and a trench coat.  In the snow.

But I'm so damn unsure on sizing, 36 would probably have been too snug an the 38 is way too wide 😞

They don’t stretch so I went with my normal 888 size which was about an inch bigger in the waist than most 888 denim iterations.  I have the second run which I believe was a little larger than the first.  If you’re between a 36 and 38 take into account the lack of stretch.  If you’re thinking you’re a 37 then it would come down to your tolerance for slightly larger 38s.

Thanks @tody I appreciate it, and we all wish we looked as good at @Matt. Obviously you've considered a pair and I think you should own them.

Here's the deal with the whipcord cargos and sizing. I took a 34 waist in my No Lots and they stretched to 36" and fit great. my 888 xhs are 35 waist and they stretched to 36 and fit great.

with the whipcords I bought a 36, knowing that they wouldn't stretch at all and the sizing is perfect. I had the IHUK crew send the closest measurement to a 37" waist to be extra careful, and the thought process paid off.

There's not much worse than sitting for any length of time in pants that are too small in the waist. It's as uncomfortable as having diarrhea on a plane.

One other thing to consider with the cargo's is that they are based on the 888 cut, which come in a bit at the very top of the waist. Mine fit so perfect that I don't need a belt, and since they don't stretch, I don't need to worry about them loosening and sagging with extended wear.

My advice would be to grab your best fitting pair of jeans in the waist specifically (use an 888 if you have one), and have the IHUK guys send the closest measurement to that with maybe a cm of leeway to larger size.

I certainly agree with @Matt ’s opinion. Took a pair of these on a 6 day trip to Medellin, Colombia and they were perfect for a broad variety of activities.

Grabbed a pair of these 2nd hand months ago but I've only worn them a few times. They're definitely warm and highly wind-resistant/not very breathable for me. Contrary to the "no stretch" comments throughout this thread, I washed them when they arrived from the previous owner and they definitely tightened up a little bit for me, about .5" in the waist and .2" in the thigh on a tag 34, which was assumed to be from whatever stretch was in them from him.

Feel like these would be pretty fantastic for winter camping, but otherwise having trouble putting this in rotation and open to other ways to make use of these or to prioritize them over a slew of other IH bottoms.
