I've been collecting records for years. Started buying them because going to shows in the 90's, bands always sold CD's for like $8-$10 and LP's were $6-$8. Figured it would be a good investment and to save some dollars. Still have a lot of the records I bought back then.

My collection size has ebbed and flowed over the last decade or so (moving with a few thousand records across multiple states SUCKKKKKS). These days it's basically just my essentials and sentimental stuff. If you're into mid-late 90's emo bands, I've probably still got it.

      Wants List:
      IHSH-20-Red, XL
      IHSH-208-Indigo Kersey, L-XL
      IHSH-254-Grey Kersey, L-XL
      IHSW-45 Black, M
      IH-526SV 21oz type III, 38 or 40
      IH-777S-SB size 32
      IH-777S-142 size 31 or 32
      IHJ-142-BLK or IND, M

Oh this is my thread right here!! I collect records and vintage stereos. Mid-late 70’s pioneer and Marantz gear gets me so stoked!!

If you haven’t heard of the band Kikagaku Moyo y’all should check em out. Incredible psych rock rhythms. All their vinyls are so well recorded and mastered. Perfect music for focused listening. Hypnotic and dynamic.

In the easy chair with my boots on, melted whiskey in my hand. Could'na been asleep for more than three hours...time to go to work again...

I love kikagaku - they actually just played in my city this week but I couldn't make it
Apparently they are calling it quits this year

This one is on my shortlist to buy

I also just recently started selling on Discogs in the last couple of months. Some stuff has flown right off my shelf. Working to list more as other stuff comes up that I'd rather spend money on these days. I used to sell a lot of records on eBay, Discogs, GEMM (anyone remember that one?) and vinyl messageboards like VLV, Dead Format and Vinyl Collective.

I absolutely have a soft spot for 90s albums

I have a few that I love that i think could fall into the emo category:

              https://www.discogs.com/release/1480257-Sunny-Day-Real-Estate-The-Rising-Tide

The biggest holes in my collection right are some of the shoegaze classics

It's almost all re-issues of that stuff for me though - originals are just so fucking expensive since CD was king when they came out originally

I know that there have been good re-issues of MBV isn't anything and loveless over the past few years
Same with some of stuff from slowdive, lush, c-twins etc….

@GraemeE they were here in Denver a couple weeks ago. I went. I’ve seen them a few times now and this show was an incredible performance. I was actually listening to their album Lost Forest of Children last night wondering why such an incredible band would want to hang it up right as they are in their prime!!!??

Interesting - I know his music mainly from radio play when I was younger.

Do you collect anything older? Like 60s 70s ?

Yeah. I love Punk. I’ve got a bunch of first pressings from The Ramones, The Cramps, Misfits, Dead Boys…the list goes on and on haha. I’ve gone some original Link Wray pressings that are pretty rare. I’ve got all the classic Pink Floyd’s first Japanese pressings. Bunch of stuff. How about you? Sounds like you’re into some emo stuff. Any other genres?

I definately have a soft spot for 90s since I remember it the first time around but the vast majority is probably in the 1964-1974 time frame.

I'm a sucker for the late 60s in almost any genre - with a lot of my favorites in that era the nice original pressings are bit out of reach though

I've got a wife and kids so as much as I'd love to own the og mono pressing of pet sounds or oddesy and oracle by the zombies(with the original overdub horn section on "this will be our year") I also would like to be able to provide the basic necessities and entertainment for my offspring ….

I'm more likely to buy an IH shirt or jacket and spend $30 on a good re-issue of a classic album - this is the source of hours of heated (but very much good natured) arguments with friends who  also share my lust for denim and vinyl

Haha. Oh you don’t have to explain it to me. Between records, stereos, fly fishing, boots, denim, jackets and a now growing love of watches!!! Holy cow! Haha. I haven’t been buying a ton of records lately. But I find as the weather cools down I tend to listen to them more.

My lady and I had a great night last night and listened to about 5 records back to back and drank whiskey. Great way to spend an evening.

My problem is that I can buy a vinyl just because of the cover. This one I was suckered in by the title and photo - contains absolutely dreadful 'elevator music' versions!!!

                                    Looks like 1968?

The combination of elevator music and cheesy wordplay

I came upon this record by chance while looking for a copy of a brian wilson song that glenn cambell recorded.
Turns out tasturo yamashita covered it which led me to this album…arguably pretty damn close to elevator music - exotica through the lense of 1978
The players are pretty much the all stars of that era in pop
Yamashita, sakimoto, hosono etc...set me in motion to relisten to happy end, ymo and now I'm on the hunt for city pop vinyl
