The soak is to embed the stitching. The denim is entirely untreated after weaving and quite abrasive. It can damage the stitching with movement unless it is soaked.

The soak and the wash together remove shrinkage. How much depends on the temperature of the water and the amount of agitation. This is why a wash is used as well as a soak. It’s the movement during the wash that encourages the cotton fibres to take in water. They then contract upon drying.

When that is done you’re good to go and how you wash/soak after that is entirely up to you. Subsequent soaks/washes can result in incremental shrinkage but that’s only because not all the shrinkage came out first time.

I can not say it any better than this…Thanks @neph93

Very much thanks! And indeed what i’ve read. Are there any rules for drip dry before putting it in the washmachine?

@Heavy_blue I don't think so.  I pull them out of the sink/tub, wait until there isn't water pouring off of them, and then place them in the washing machine.

I've only had two pairs of UHR, but have used the same protocol on most of my jeans (to avoid marbling).

          Hope it helps. 🙂

I picked up this pair on release and I’m so happy I did. Third pair of UHR in nine years… I will never get tired of this denim.

Very nice!! My first UHR it was a must have due the story behind the fabric.. still feels like cardboard haha, will it soften up over time?

A bit… it never gets soft like 21oz or XHS, but it gets softer.

I’m curious how it will end up.. it’s been a while since i had a XHS. Started the addiction again with a SLB pair and now a UHR, so i’ts takes a little getting used to it. Hard to button, walking around like a robot for the first days haha, all part of the process

It’s a trip for sure. Ends up very different to XHS despite the comparable weight and stiffness at the start. The SLB is just another dimension of denim by comparison.

How did your first UHR turned out?

Like this… Still in use, but they have only ever been in sporadic rotation (they’re basically my «fat jeans»). My second pair were worn more and harder but were sent back to Gosport a few years ago. IHUK may still have them, I’m not sure.

I'm sitting here in a new pair (couple of weeks wear) of 634 UHR's wondering if they will ever look like that…My 888 UHR's were the same way.  Stubborn with tiny changes and then all of a sudden they looked great.  (Maybe it was that I washed them)... 😃

They’re actually back in rotation now, but I haven’t counted of total wears. They’re about eight years old and have been washed a lot. Probably around 200-300 wear days?

Having worn the UHR for a few days now, I have the feeling that the UHR fabric is a lot thinner than my XHS or the XHSiB. Oh yeah, the breath ability is also way below the XHS iterations.
