@Jeanmoreau washing a lot will get you there eventually, but AFAIK these never get quite as soft as IH’s other denims. From what I’ve heard, the 21oz gets the comfiest, but I don’t know that firsthand.

That said, I would submit to you that a better long-term solution may be to adopt a more active lifestyle, if you are not disabled in a way that prevents you from doing so. In addition to the myriad health benefits of exercise, you will also get much better fade patterns if you wear them hard.

          2 months of wear.
I'm debating in my head if I should order the 888 21s in a size down and abandon these for those.

          Pros:
These are super loose but somehow they stay up without a belt.
They don't look like skinny jeans.

          Cons:
They might be a little too loose and low, making the me like a slob.
There is a danger of plumbers crack if i sit down without hoisting them up before.

Any thoughts.. should I try a non 888 fit?

Depending if you want a taper or not. If not, try a 634. but a plumbers crack in a 888 to me sounds like they are just too big. The 888 has the highest rise of all cuts.

They are definitely loose. You can size down for sure. The 888 cut was never meant to be skinny jeans. Actually i do not think there is an Iron Heart cut that will be considered skinny jeans. From all the cuts the 555 and 777 seem to be the slimmer ones. I think the 555 is the slimmest overal. Do you have actual measurements in mind that you shooting for? That will be more helpfull so the forum members can give you better advice as to what you are looking for.

I think they look great @Jeanmoreau but I have been more drawn to a relaxed, loose fit look lately.

Let me clarify that I do not want skinny jeans. I hate tight thighs and crotch area.

My waist is 35 inch, thigh 21.
Jeans in photo are size 34.

I'm thinking that I'm going to go with the 888 size 33 and just hope they aren't too tight.

Really these have been great though. I don't even need or want another pair. It's just the perfectionist in me obsessed over the perfect fit.

Hard to tell from pictures sometimes but looking again i think you can definitely do tag 33 and still have room. The difference between the 2 is about an inch in the waist and .04 on the thigh. Knee and hem are negligible. Your best bet is to measure a pair that you have that fits the way you want and compare it to the measurements in the site. Just make sure you measure the right way using IH measuring instructions. If you are after a more fitted , overal slimmer look you may be able to handle tag 32 also. Again hard to tell, but looks like you have plenty room on the pictures.

What’s the problem with belts? Otherwise I agree with @Kasi that 777 would work.

Because not wearing a belt is more comfy. People are recommending 777. Isn't that a slim jean?

@Jeanmoreau I definitely don't want to come off as gatekeeping here…you can wear whatever the heck you want!  That said, it seems to me that the people who buy the 888 are the folks who want a tapered cut but cannot fit into the 777 or the 555 because of their thighs.  If you like the loose fit, then you're set!  If you want a trimmer fit, then the 777 would be a great step in that direction.

If your thighs are 21", and I'm understanding that measurement correctly, you could go as low as a 10.5" thigh but a size 36 888-XHS has a thigh of 14", so you're going to be swimming in it.  If you were to go with a size 35 777-XHS, you'd have a 13.2" thigh and a 35.5" waist.  It would still be loose but a good deal more trim than your current 36 888.

                            edit:

Not owning any 777, I forgot that it's not high rise.  If you want high rise, you can stick with the 888 but drop down to a size 35 to get a slightly more trim fit.

Also, you said that your waist is 35", where are you measuring that?  Because the waist line on a high rise cut like the 888 hits me right below the bellybutton.  My "waist" measurement just below the bellybutton will be different than my "waist" measurement where a 634 or 777 would sit.

                            Blanket-line all the things!!!

Those are size 34. I am thinking of getting 888 size 33.

@Jeanmoreau ah, apologies!  I misread your posts.

If that's the case, the thigh will definitely firm up but, I'm worried about your waist.  If you hike up your current 34, how loose are they?  You can get 1" of stretch in the waist easy.  I've gotten as much as 2" out of the 21oz fabric, but it won't go beyond that.

It’s really hard to tell what your fit is actually like without seeing where the jeans sit on your waist, or how they fit through the hip. With your shirt untucked, we can’t really see the jeans. That said, I assume a 33 would still fit.

@sabergirl is right, it's really tough to guess without seeing the waist.  Can you tuck that shirt in, hike the pants up to the right height (probably so the waist comes up to just under your belly button), and show us how much room you have in the waist?

I'm not hiking them up because they are never actually hiked up. Even if I wear a belt, they always go down to there due to how my stomach curves.

Also I'll point out that this is in 80 degree weather and they don't even feel hot.

Also notice the bulge on the left side thigh. That is from the back pocket. I wonder how many people actually use these to ride motorcycles because I wish the back pockets were normal.

I rode motorcycles for 25 years and the 634s were the single most comfortable jeans for me to wear while riding. I might be wrong, but I think they were the original jeans or the first cut that Haraki designed with riding in mind. I’ve also found the 555s to be quite comfortable on the bike as well. I don’t know what the answer to your specific problem is, but I would have to agree that those jeans don’t look like they fit you very well, and therefore are probably not very comfortable.
