My gentle is not at all.  I drip dry.

              Honestly some people are unbelievable.

How hard is a hot soak…

Then machine wash with no spin.
              Leave to dry.

But then again every person has brain….. lol

Don’t know how to use it..

Well I mean, people spend almost 400 bucks on a pair of jeans — the directions make sense but it’s understandable there’s a worry about fucking them up. Especially when every other sentence in the thread is MAKE SURE YOU GET THE SHRINK OUTTTTT. Like I said, comical. 😃

I think we will rewrite the last sentence in the washing instructions, it's a tad misleading for RAW especially.

From: Do not tumble dry (this is likely to cause shrinkage and white marks).

Do not tumble dry, this is likely to cause marbling (white marks/lines where the fabric rubs the drum of the tumble dryer)

Wouldn’t worry too much…. Buttoning denim that gnarly is always hard. Use a pair of long nose pliers to stretch the buttonhole.

Wore mine today for an hour, it’s simply too hot for them in Austria atm. Buttoning up needs some efforts but was ok. They are soaking right now. Will wear them then for a while before their first wash. It’s the most gnarly denim I have seen so far. I didn’t get them hemmed yet, decided to wear them for a while, give them a view washes and then probably get them hemmed when in Gosport next time.

Wash later. My approach is wear them a bit and see how they fit and stretch, then soak and drip dry. Will wear them then for a certain time to see how much they stretch. Then give them a carful cold wash, no spin. Wear again, if I need more shrinkage the next wash will be warm. I bought them them almost true to size. My target waist is 34 inch the tag size 33 I have are 33.8 inch. I therefore will be very carefully in the beginning to not get to much shrinking of the waist. Didn’t wet the waist with the first soak for example.

Yep me too, one hour. I hate wearing uncomfy jeans. Therefore with raw I am pretty carefully at the beginning. If I need more shrinkage I can easily get it later as well.

Do I need to get this translated intro some sort of other language? I can't believe it's not clear enough….

                                    https://www.ironheart.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=10386.0

Perhaps it's less that they don't understand, so much as they want to know if anyone's had as-good or better results following a different procedure? I know many XHS owners (yourself included IIRC, but correct me if I'm wrong) don't follow the official IH instructions for breaking in that denim. Maybe all these posters are curious if the veterans of the last UHR run came up with an alternate process for this one, too?

IDK, I think the directions are pretty crystal, and I am not a smart man. I'd like to believe that the rest of these folks aren't asking from lack of comprehension.

Soak and wash are done, denim fully dried. I like the fit for me, will post pics later, just briefly put them on to see if they work.
Shrinkage was minimal. Almost nothing in the waist ( Could have accepted more shrinkage here), about half an inch in the front and rear rise, minimal shrinkage in the thigh, knee and hem. 1.25 inches shrinkage in the inseam.
Soak was hot and washed them after being fully dried on 30C for about 30 minutes (short cycle, no spin, drip dry).
I will test them out in the wild today to see if I manage them in 26C+ weather.

I certainly recommend following the XHS washing instructions, because I believe it is the safest route.  I just can't be bothered. I'm pretty indifferent as to how I wash and care for my jeans, wash when dirty, repeat….

@Jestocost i think the official instructions have to take into account maximum tolerances. If people get more extreme results than suggested by following the instructions then that would create issues regarding returns.

The facts of the matter are that soaking lubricates the cotton threads in such a way that they puff up and the constructional stitching integrates better.

The machine wash creates the agitation needed to contract the fibres making the denim 23oz per square yard. This also means shrinkage.

Following instructions will get the shrinkage out, strengthen the fabric and the stitching. Not followimg them may mean stitching popping out, early tears appearing at creased points, or nasty shrink related surprises at a later date.

A hot soak with agitation by hand may do enough to avoid these things but by following instructions, you’re doing a Ripley:
