Oman Fishing 2022

Should change your forum name to “Ahab”.
Needless to say, being woken this morning by a call from Giles at 07:30, with horrible connectivity, saying there had been a boat crash, was - well - bloody awful! He convinced me in a later call (when I could actually hear what he was saying) that he's okay. And the fact that he's been documenting his adventures leads me to believe that his mind (if not his body) is still functioning as well as can be expected! ::)

But seriously, I consider myself to be supremely lucky. I get to do some very weird and wonderful shit, and I have a wife in @Madame Buttonfly who whilst not exactly ecstatic about me doing fucking stupid stuff with people half my age (not in itself a bad thing, but I do shit that I probably should have stopped doing decades ago), puts up with it, in good grace.
Nuff said

Giles Padmore. Annoying both man and beast all over the world.
Indeed he is (both annoying and lucky to have me). But, funnily enough, I wouldn't have him any other way

That's really nuts G and I am glad you are safe. I've always wondered about a breaching whale landing on a boat, never thought one would hammer a boat that someone I knew was on!
No, I’m pretty sure exploding whales are mostly funny.
TBF, it's an exploding whale carcass. It's not like some asshole shot an RPG at a whale; the sad part was that it beached and died. The funny parts for me were a) that someone thought this was a good idea, b) that they did it, c) that it resulted in what you'd expect, and d) the reporting itself–gets me every time. I think I watched it 100 times when I first saw it eons ago.

@Giles How’s the fishing? You’re uncharacteristically quiet…hope you’re okay and having fun.
@goosehd - thanks for checking in. I was worried, after speaking on Sunday afternoon I didn't hear from Giles on Monday, but he was in touch a few times yesterday so I know he's fine. The connectivity at the fishing camp is obviously pretty unreliable, and on Monday night they overnighted on an island, way off the coast, with zero signal. He did admit that the experience of staying on the island was not one he wanted to repeat, he said he was too old (and I'm sure too used to his creature comforts) to sleep on sand in wet clothes!
So we may have to wait until the weekend when he's finished fishing to get more news of his adventures, let's hope we get some photos of fish…

@Madame Buttonfly Paula, thank you for the update. I love seeing you active on here and hope you’re doing well!

I'm doing great, thank you - looking forward to having some family and friends here for a few nights over Easter, and then getting them all packed off home before Giles gets back on Sunday night
Sending love to you and all your lovely girls x x x x

We managed to get back out to the islands on Monday.
Early start….
In the windy season, the islands are virtually impossible to get to. The locals say that if you are on one of the islands in June, you aren't going to get off until September. This ship lost power in the windy season in 2020 and ended up breaking its back on the shore of Sawdah. What I find amazing is that the containers are still unopened on the deck…
One place that has fascinated me since 2016 when I first came here, is this resort. The fools who came up with the idea invested many many millions before realising that the location was completely untenable. The houses basically being swamped by waves in June through September, so the whole project was abandoned….
This is where we ended up camping, so I had a good look around….
Needless to say, the weather is taking its toll…
Our camp - the only company apart from each other, was a lot of rats - I zipped up my tent very thoroughly…..
