Try wearing it when damp and applying pressure to the area you want to loosen up.

Sizing up might be the way to go like yannis said.

Generally, shirts don’t stretch.  The tension placed on them is not enough.  The only exception I’ve seen is in the elbows.

I have stretched a uhf in the chest before but it's a pain in the arse and needs to be done after every wash or soak. I wouldn't recommend it. If I could get a do over, I would size up.

Size up for sure! UHF shrinks in the wash, and if needed shrinks even more in the dryer. Unless the measurements are generous, sizing up is my MO for these.

Thanks for your advice @yannis @BD81 @sabergirl. I tried it on again with a tee underneath and I'm going to keep it. Room to spare in the back and across the shoulders so I think I'll be ok. It's too nice to miss out on.

Picked up a large from @Danny RnH Rivet and Hide today. Great service and cool shirt. It's got a little bit of room so hope it doesn't shrink too much. I'll stick to cold washes  😉

Somebody with lots of UHF experience pipe up about this “scratchy” phenomenon that folks are reporting. I am baffled, and can’t imagine it.

@sabergirl no offense to anyone…. But I'd attribute that scratchy talk to one's own personal idiosyncrasies... The purple UHF is literally the softest UHF ever. I have owned ten if them or so. Might be some autoimmune thing or dry skin or whatever. The shirt is luxuriously soft in every sense. Perfect in every conceivable way.

I gotta second what @Filthy is saying. I don’t have the 309 I went with the green tartan, my 7th UHF….nonetheless it is without doubt the softest UHF out of the bag I’ve ever had. Something is definitely different in the feels department on these. So soft. My 101, which I got second hand and have worn and washed the hell out of is super soft and the greenie still feels softer. Perfect indeed.

Most/all UHF's patterns/colourways feel subtlety different from each other.  This is because different dyes create different characteristics in the yarn and different weaves create different textured fabric.

Marginal differences in UHF’s aside, this one is as soft and comfortable as all the UHF’s I’ve had. I’d agree with @Filthy that subjective experience is the thing here.

Appreciate the kind words. Wanted this one a touch big to allow for some thicker undershirts.

You can rock it like that or over layers for sure. I just find it nice to not have to worry about shrinkage happening.

Well, I’m sure I got one of the last in a L and I could not be more pleased! This is my second UHF from Iron Heart (the first was Purple Rain, yes I 💜 purple). The fit and feel are perfect, this feels like a cozy blanket, not scratchy at all. For me the Western style is the way to go because I like a more fitted shirt and I can still wear a Tee or a Henley underneath. It was a serious  financial plunge but this shirt will last a lifetime, and the color combination is brilliant and unique. The hot purple and blue are toned down by the brown and grays. Fantastic flannel!
