@Stuart.T  I really like the body length on that jacket. Long enough that it's not short, and short enough that it's not long.

@jordanscollected @neph93 @den1mhead thanks folks. I'm happy with the length and general fit. I can wear a hoodie, or UHF, or type III comfortably underneath. I'm not likely to wear this with just a t-shirt. It's not a very breathable jacket, when I owned the IHJ 12 in brown, it was a sweat trap, and my arms would stick to the lined sleeves.

I'm very much a hardcore kid of the 80/90s, college windbreakers and work/mechanics jackets were the thing. IH have provided me with amazing updated versions of both American utility wear classics. I'm going to resist getting SXE screen printed on the back of this jacket, like I would have done in 1993!  😃

Sooooo, I've just discovered IH technical jackets…RIP my wallet.

I picked this up from Snake Oil Provisions -- great service!  It's the version with the logo, so it's not exactly the IHJ-12-BLK but I figured you guys wouldn't mind 🙂

Sizing...this was tricky.  Like Stuart mentioned, I don't ever plan on wearing this over a T-shirt, I was looking for a shell to wear over a sweatshirt or UHF.  I'm 5'10" with a 40" chest and I usually take a large in most of the IH shirts (typically looking for 22-23" P2P on shirts/jackets).  If I'm comparing the IHJ-12-BLK's P2P to other products, a small would've fit like some of my westerns, UHFs, etc., and a medium would've fit like an N1.  Given that, I was pretty nervous sizing up to a large but I didn't think that the medium would've given me enough mobility over a sweatshirt.  So, after talking with Kasi (thx yo!), and seeing that Graham also took a large, I pulled the trigger.  It's perfect!

I initially had a concern about layering under something with knitted cuffs; I wasn't sure how a sweatshirt or UHF would fit underneath.  Sometimes, the sleeves of the shirt underneath kinda bumps into a jacket's knitted sleeves and it's not comfortable, like the knitted cuffs hold the under-item's sleeves back.  Maybe I'm alone there.  Whether you know what I'm talking about or not, don't worry, I experienced none of that discomfort on this jacket.

Because I picked up the version that went to the retailers, it has the logo.  Normally, I'm not a logo guy but I love that the logo is black on black.  You can see it if you look, but it doesn't jump out at you.  And you know what?  It's a lovely friggin' logo.  I wouldn't even have minded if it was yellow or red or blue!

Great, highly functional jacket.  I definitely recommend it if you can get your hands on it.

@adam313 no joke, man.  I bought that IHJ-80-BLK off of you (phenomenal rain – possibly snow -- jacket), the IHJ-12-BLK, which is a great shell for when it's not raining, and the IHJ-79-BLK, which is so crazy warm considering how light it is.

I'm NOT looking forward to the credit card bill LOL

Ha!  I'm really getting to the point where I can't buy more stuff until I get rid of stuff.  But, since I didn't have anything technical before I picked up that IHJ-80-BLK, it was easy for me to convince myself that it was a necessity LOL.  Now that I've got these 3, I really gotta cool down my jets.

I appreciate that logos aren't for everyone. I like subtle logos, not keen on slogans.

I'd have loved this jacket with the black on black IH logo like my old brown IHJ 12 had, but I'm losing no sleep over the fact mine doesn't.

I'd say this jacket is a great outdoor layering piece. Like others, I wear with a sweat or UHF. One thing to note, this jacket does not breathe, at all, in the slightest, which can make it uncomfortable if you are doing much more activity than a rigorous walk.

@Giles do you know if there is a practical reason why these can't be lined with a cotton twill or similar? (has that been discussed and dismissed?). It would make wear a little more comfortable.

Only reason I can think is that it would make cleaning them difficult as the lining might shrink and shell remain the same. I'd be interested to know.

Differential shrinkage is always a concern, I would imaginer that's the reason, though I have not asked.

Cotton would be a terrible lining as well. It would keep hold of the moisture your body created and the outside temp would make that very cold, thus cooling your skin. A Goretex or other technical layer, or even a polyester lining would be preferable.

Moisture retention happens anyway, it's just retained in the base layers you are wearing if they are made of cotton. I can live with it, just wondered whether the discussion had been had at design stage.

Ultimately I love this jacket and it plugged a gap in my jacket needs between my M65 and N1. I do feel like I could fall off a building, hit the ground, and not sustain a scratch if was wearing Cordura. Forgive me if I don't test that theory though  😉

Indeed. Much easier to chuck a cotton tee in the wash… having moisture stock on the cotton lining would result in mildew.

I think that it is often useful to consider the bike riders perspective when it comes to IH design choices. As you have observed, it does not breath. So it keeps wind out and warmth on the inside while riding, moisture is released when unzipped, and the lack of cotton lining mean it airs out quickly on the back of a chair.

I was wondering about that because the stocklist on page 1 only showed IHUK.  So I was surprised when Snake Oil Provisions listed the product, logo or no-logo.

I checked with AJ, because the printed version has a different Lot Number it was missed when he looked to see which retailers were taking these.  Obviously, in retrospect, we should have included both versions.

Iron Heart Hamburg also took the printed version, so I have updated the stockist's post.
