How's San Angelo?  I haven't been there in forever.

It’s cool. It’s definitely getting more barren as we progress towards Big Bend. There’s an Air Force base across the lake so the sky isn’t as dark as it was at our park in Coleman.  SA the town is a lot bigger too.  We’re knocking out our Xmas shopping now to get out in front since there’s no guarantees once we leave here.  The real challenge is hiding Xmas presents from the kids for the next month.  I may have to bury those too.

If I haven’t done that by now I think we’re good.  It helps that I’m going deaf and drink myself to sleep.  Anyone can be a dad with that power combo.

San Angelo St Pk is home to part of TX’s official longhorn herd…

There’s a Dinosaur Trail here too.  We hiked out to see some pre dinosaur tracks fossilized in a dry creek bed…

In addition to the longhorn herd, there’s a herd of bison.  This park is pretty legit.  Apparently the area they hang out in is achingly beautiful but off limits to the public.  This is the way…

The little one is only 3 weeks old.  It’s a bit late in the year for calves but the attendant doing the feeding said they just let them be and allow nature to take its course. They’ve got about 400 acres on which to roam

Rainy day yesterday paid off last night…

San Angelo St Pk has about 50 miles  of trails.  Today’s hike was on the 3 mile Winding Snake Trail.  The girls did great which gives us hope for the trails at Big Bend…

We’ve yet to spot a javelina but the signs were everywhere.  They eat the prickly pear cactus fruit so their poop is bright red with lots of seeds.  There were also lots of prints near small trails they make leading from the trail back into the brush…
