Route planning today.  Fun fact about the southwest of the US…  in the same city you can be at 500’ above sea level then drive across town and be at 5000’ above sea level.  That’s important of you live in a trailer where all your plumbing can freeze overnight if you aren’t winterized.  Glad we figured this out now.  Some epic camping in the weeks and months to come.

I love following this thread as a lurker. That said, I live in Northern Arizona and there are plenty of beautiful parks and things to check out across the state. Covid apparently doesn't exist here so you won't be turned away wherever you decide to check out. The weather is just now getting nice so you're in for a treat.

Thanks @Palmer  I’m happy to hear the great state of Arizona is COVID free.  Or at least they think it is.  I guess New Mexico thought that too at first which is why we now have to drive through it instead of spend time there visiting the parks as planned.  All is not lost though.  We’ll be getting to Cali a lot sooner and will get to see some great weather out there.  We’re eying up some state parks that look just as awesome if not more so than some of the Natl Parks.

I’ll let you know our AZ stops later when my wife frees up from schoolin the children.  I think our first stop there is Saguaro Natl Pk for some of this…

The old Texas guy camping next to us (one of only 4 people camping here including us) has just started playing a guitar and singing.  He’s by himself.  It’s amazing.  If he doesn’t murder us this will be pretty special.

I know I'm biased because I was born here but the Southwest is insane. West Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona can feel surreal at times. Overwhelming feelings of romanticism flow freely when you watch the sun set over a dusty ridge casting a shadow over a truck stop. It's like a modern day Larry McMurtry novel. I've been making art about this crazy place for a while now and can't wait to see how y'all feel about being here.

I can't imagine something more appropriate and adventurous than living in an Airstream and moving freely across the country during the pandemic. You have ultimate freedom and it's inspiring to see.

Got a good deal on a new bike that our new buddy Logan fixed up with a new pedal and new rear brake for $30 including the trade in on the old one which he said I could bring in any time.

@Aetas I did not but if I had a place to put them I’d have considered it.  As it stands I brought way more IH shirts  and jackets than my wife would have allowed had I not hidden them from her.

I found some TX beer too.  The pink haired beer store lady was listening to David Bowie and The Cure.  Not bad for Rio Vista, TX the here the wild pig population is greater than the people population.

We’re just starting to get into territory that’s dramatically different than what we’re used to and it’s pretty exciting.  There was a wild boar on the side of a cactus and brush covered county road that was bigger than a large dog.

It’s just cattle ranch after cattle ranch here.  Wild stuff for a city boy like me.

We’re going back to Cleburne tomorrow to take the girls trick or treating.  The town’s shops are giving out candy.  We thought Halloween would be a bust this year but this should work out nicely for the girls so we’re pretty excited.

Holy shit. Crazy. This is where I grew up. Small world. I haven’t seen this in quite a while.

Whenever my wife and I see one of those tiny home shows or talk about van-living, she quickly shoots it down with "You wouldn't be able to fit all of your of clothes in there."

Did you sell any IH stuff off before moving into the Airstream?  If so, I'd love to know what you decided to keep!  I sometimes look at my closet filled with something like 7 years of IH garb purchases and am not really sure what I would keep if I could only keep 10 items, for example.  What were those top X items that you decided to keep.  Is there anything you got rid of or never picked up that you would end up putting to good use on the road?

Sorry if this has already been brought up in the thread, I haven't read it all.
