Finally got to whet my watch whistle after a few years of rampant net based research. I was never interested in blowing huge sums and was fairly sure I wanted a Hamilton field watch for a number of years.

Recently though, I’ve been drawn towards Seiko and picked up this steel automatic at a huge discount (probably partially due to the disgusting silicon strap with faux leather inlay it originally came on). I took the discount and spent it on one of the cordovan Pinion straps left in the Outlet. Quite pleased with the result.

I have a big ugly Seiko diver with a shrouded bezel. They’re terrific watches and a great value across the range and including Grand Seiko.

These days I always wear a Garmin. I miss watches.

          Think it, be it.

Thanks gents. Of course, the story has a twist. I fixed the watch just before xmas and ordered the strap which didn’t get to me until new year. In the meantime Hot Ingrid had been checking my browser history and had bought me this for xmas [emoji38]

So she doesn’t know about the first watch yet [emoji1783]

Nice watches @neph93. I wonder what would have happened if Hot Ingrid had seen Patek in your browser history… 😃

And I'm sure that the Hamilton Field Watch is coming eventually.

It's always good to have a choice. Assuming you survive the inevitable moment when you have to come clean, I'm sure you will enjoy both.

I wpuld too, but unfortunately the lugs on the land Turtle are 18mm and the strap is 20mm.

Thanks folks! I’m happy to have gotten into the game.

Kind of unsure now… You may have all noticed that I tend to find a brand and develop an unhealthy, devoted relationship with it [emoji38] I may end up a Seiko Boi for life now.

@neph93 there's Grand Seiko and Credit, plus Seiko's Micro Artist Studio for you to investigate. But these belong in the Even More Intimidating Watch Thread! 😉

In the long run, the Hamilton might have proven cheaper…

Got my first Sinn today and I’m very happy! This watch packs a punch. So many great features in a modest, understated package. This is the 556i on the H-link bracelet.

Thank you! This is my one-watch collection. This watch can do it all 🙂 The 556A is absolutely gorgeous. I’ve had tons of watches over the years, but this is my first serious watch and I’m elated.

The MOP is gorgeous! And best of all, pretty widely available 🙂 If you search YouTube for reviews of the 556, they're consistently rave reviews with very little negative to say. The 556i is sold out here in the States, but I was able to find one on eBay that was purchased new in July, so it's still under the two year factory warranty.

Here's a great review, if anyone is interested:
