The denim strap seems like a useless gimmick, but the Momotaro Oris is really good looking otherwise.

There have been a few interesting watches launched in the last couple of days.

First up is the Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope. It's got a new, hand wound movement which looks lovely in the photos. It's available in several colours, the Panda dial with red accents is my favourite. I'm not sure how legible the dial will be, particularly as I'm starting to get presbyopia.

There's also the Hamilton Khaki Field Chronograph. It looks good, but a 44 mm watch on a Bund strap is going to wear pretty big.

Lastly there's the Chopard Alpine Eagle Cadence 8HF. The Alpine Eagle range came out a while back, when everyone started getting obsessed about integrated bracelet steel sports watches. But this one has a titanium case and an 8 Hertz movement, most watches run at 4 Hertz, which should make it more accurate.

Chopard is an intriguing brand. They offer quite good value in the higher end range it seems.

While I find the Omega to be rather busy (a sentiment felt about the sort of watches this is styled after as well), I happen to LOVE the bronze gold execution:

They do, but I feel like some of their designs are kind of derivative even when they're attractive.

@Graeme I have awful vision and presbyopia has really set in, but I have multifocal contacts now that make watches like that or a Breitling Navitimer feasible with 20/20 vision; might be worth investigating. This variety has different concentric focal areas, so you don't have to look in a certain place, it just feels like I can see effortlessly.

                    Think it, be it.

@JDelage I've heard that the LUC watches by Chopard are considered to be possibly better finished than the comparable Pateks, but at a lower price point. I'd prefer the Alpine Eagle in titanium to the similarly priced Aquanaut, though the latter will be worth a lot more on the secondary market.

@henry_david the bronze gold model does look good.

I agree that the dial is busy. Maybe they'll do another model with a simpler face and the same movement, such as a DeVille chronograph.

@mclaincausey thanks for the contact lenses tip. I've never tried them because my eyes are generally very sensitive to everything. Might be worth experimenting…

I can’t say enough good things about them. I’m using Acuvue Moist and they just feel like I can see for once 😂

I really like the Alpine Eagle Cadence. I've been interested in Chopard's 8 hertz movements from the original LUC 8HF onwards, and I prefer titanium to steel for cases.

I'll have to check them out when Melbourne emerges from its never-ending lockdown.

Well, this one is off to a new owner Monday. It lived most of its life in the safe deposit box. While I will miss it, I found it a little too flash on my wrist, but at the end of the day, when someone offers you triple what you paid, it is hard to say no.

I find myself wearing my vintage SD and 1675 over everything else. Perhaps 2 or 3 watches are ample. lol
