Love Jason Isbell. I think my favorite album of his is probably Southeastern followed by Nashville Sound. Did you see that he’s doing an album of covers called “Georgia Blue”?  Covering stuff by REM, Drivin’ and Cryin’ , Otis Redding… Should be fun.

I did not, but that sounds like a winner for sure.  I've been listening to "Reunions" a bunch, love that the style is a little all over the place

Agreed about Reunions in the best sense. I love that he’s not only a great songwriter but a legitimately badass guitarist. Would love to catch a show on his next tour but would have to head to St. Louis for closest venue.

I agree it would most likely be a great live show.  I agree with you about both his musicianship and songwriting.  His lyrics get things across in a wonderfully clear and simple way

I saw him whe he co billed with Father John Misty.  I went for FJM but ended up enjoying JI much more.  They swapped positions on the tour and fortunately I caught one where he closed.  Though I love FJM his set would have been a disappointment to close the evening.

Closest I’ve come to seeing JI live was catching him on Austin City Limits. I really would love to see him soon. I think my next live show will be Charley Crockett here in town.  He’s got a great sound if you dig old classic country

I love seeing classic country shows.  I love seeing them in divey places.  My first post apocalypse shows coming up soon in Oct then 2 in Feb.  Can’t wait.  I really can’t remember who I saw last.

Man, I’m with you on classic country in a dive bar. It hits all the right spots for me.  You probably have seen it, but if not, I highly recommend the semi-recent “Country Music” documentary by Ken Burns. Damn it was good and I learned a ton.

On a separate note, I mentioned in another thread my love for bands like Husker Du.  I also love classic country, so I got lucky when I went to school in Columbia, MO in the early 90’s and got to see Uncle Tupelo, who I think kind of invented that “alt-country” genre.  Saw them a ton and they became one of my favorite bands. It didn’t hurt that they absolutely rocked live.

LOVE Uncle Tupelo. But I think that if I had to credit one act for founding Alt Country I would go back to Neil Young. Listening to an album like Harvest Moon it's all there! Just got a little punkier downstream.

                                        Think it, be it.

Good point about Neil. I think I should have probably used the term “cow-punk” (as awful as that sounds).  Although his stuff with crazy horse is in that vein too. I remember when I first heard the intense staccato rhythm of “Graveyard Shift” paired with that telecaster…that stuff was made for me.

While my mind is on “country, alt-country, country-folk”, are there any Richard Buckner fans around here?  Guy doesn’t get his due I think
