@mclaincausey losing Tom Petty was really probably the worst I've experienced, personally. I'm a humongous fan, and am really grateful I got to see him on the last tour. Did you happen to be at that show at the coliseum in Jackson in '95? That and Prince a year or so later at the coliseum are the two best shows I've ever seen.

I was at Prince and his aftershow at the Dock! That was '97 so you're close. I didn't catch Tom Petty unfortunately–like ever. Which will be a regret I carry with me forever. I tried to see Mudcrutch when they played a tiny venue here in Denver a few years ago, but unfortunately it was impossible to get tickets... Closest I ever got, and albeit not the Heartbreakers, that would have been even more special to me.I lived in Minneapolis for a while and went to Paisley Park twice, and a small jazz club once to see intimate Prince shows. Our table was 10 feet from him at the jazz club. They took everyone's phones but I got great bootlegs of it (which I cannot find now). He did two shows a night for three nights. We caught the second show first night. The progression was from jazz/fusion to pop over these rehearsals, so we saw a pretty great fusion show with a little R&B. The highlight for me other than his singing (he brought his PA and his voice resonated the whole room) was their cover of Billy Cobham's Stratus. At Paisley Park, one of the concerts was a pajama party. We all dressed in PJs and his neighbors served us pancakes (like the Chapelle skit). We were right in front of him at the stage rail--best seats in the house. This was his Third Eye Girl lineup. Intense.
We will never know exactly how prolific he was, though I am glad some releases are coming out of the vault.

God he was so crazy talented! I was a little too young to get into that Dock aftershow but I heard all about it. Very jealous of that one, and all the Paisley Park stuff, so cool. Also I looooove Billy Cobham — that rules.
It was truly a fucking rooooough span there when we lost Petty, Prince, and Bowie so close together. Ugh. I will say that for awesome Petty vibes, following Mike Campbell on Instagram is a must. He's one of my all time favorite guitarists, so extremely underrated. And his online presence is very sweet, to boot!

Wow this is fantastic @Matt very eclectic record so far. Got some At the Drive-In vibes on the first cut and a little Ian Mackaye on some of the vocals.

Ah yeah many a drunken night at the Tavern (buncha pros in there :D), also went to Brewer's Art a few times when I'd go back and visit my friends who stayed at MICA.
I was there from like 98 to 2000, so it was really quite a long time ago. Used to go see shows at the old Ottobar when it was a tiny place downtown, later became the Talking Head but not sure if that space is still even anything. Some of the coolest stuff was shows at the Copycat warehouse — saw Shellac and Blonde Redhead when I was like 19 and had no idea about any of that shit. Good times!

I have a friend who went to an Evan Dando show in Baltimore recently. ED was fuuucked up. Like rolling around on the stage in his pajamas fucked up. My friends buddy got to talking to him and ED ended up back at his place to crash. The texts and accompanying photos are hilarious. Long story short, he wouldn’t leave. He just got high and hung around dude’s house for like 3 days until finally his girl came and got him. Rock & Roll.

Yeah he's had some long running substance stuff — I read an article not too long ago in the NYT I believe, basically saying that he's just kinda committed to it. Hey, "My Drug Buddy" is goddamn fantastic, and I guess based in truth
EDIT as a sober guy myself, not sure I should joke about that, but for some reason Dando always just seemed like the guy who picked that life and seemed content with it. Could be projecting, who knows.
