A very successful rendition of a jam doughnut (which I love), but not so much in a beer…..

@scooter Saw these 2 KBS beers, but at $24.95 I couldn’t do it. Curious as to what you paid for yours.

@Jett129 , the espresso version was quite tasty. I'm not that big on maple in stouts, so I took a pass on that one. If memory serves, I paid $6 for a single bottle of espresso.

Was PM’ing with Eli about this earlier so had to make it my first beer of the weekend. Alternative Currency, a 5.8% porter by Verdant. For those that don’t realise the significance Verdant make, almost exclusively, IPA’s and varations on that theme. They have strayed from that before, but not to my knowledge, as far as stouts and porters.

Their reputation is built on very finely manipulated blends of different grains combined with some hop magic. I would suggest they are doing a good job of transferring these skills to darker beers,  although they are starting off simply. The results are good. It is ridiculously well balanced. There are oats to soften the mouth feel, barley for bitterness, and three different hops are used for complexity. It has a dry finish too as Porters should. Very tasty for its ABV, in many ways a traditional albeit quite refined porter.

That beer sounds and looks great. I really like the label.

I passed over two Prairie beers at the bottle shop on Friday. Over $20 each for 11oz/330ml…. still wondering if I did the right thing.

Late afternoon Verdant after a demolition shift in the new house...

Prairie is mostly good but yeah: they've always been very expensive… One of the few brands that just hasn't got any cheaper in €urope either... Worth it?.. Honestly I'd say youre better of buying €uropean BA beers...

@neph93 , I'd have to agree with Eli. I paid $7 for the BOMB!. It's very good. But, not $20+ good. I don't think I'd pay much more for it than I did, either.

The standard bomb is about $10-12 here although I don’t see it often. These were special editions. Just looked them up, and they were two variations on the Prairie Noir. Both cost 250kr. which is $27 at today’s rates.

Yup. Still a go to for me, but wouldnt be if it crossed the 10-12$ line. Christmas BOMB just arrived, nabbed one last week and will probably get another soon.

Decent coffee stout. But, I've been down this road before. Considering price/value, Epic's SOB is still my favorite in this category.

There is a smokiness to it. But, beside that barrel aging, they also use a smoked malt for this one. While, I got the hint of mezcal, I think the smoked malt played a greater role.
