I’ve surprised myself and stopped ogling vintage inspired Hamilton Khaki watches. Now I’m ogling something slightly different that I never thought I’d ogle…

I like the metal G-Shocks, particularly the titanium ones. Unfortunately those are probably vintage Hamilton priced!

Some models are growing on me. I like the design of the above, however it is a bit cheaty. The actual body that holds the face and mechanism is resin, then there is the steel casing you see and a steel plate on the underside. It retails at 200USD in Norway however so for an aesthetically pleasing starter watch it fits the bill.

My understanding of g-shock technology is that even the metal ones are always built with a resin core. That’s why they’re so shock proof.

I love my g-shocks. Haven’t been wearing a watch whilst staying home all the time, but they’re great.

There are G Shocks that have a full metal construction like the GW-5000-1FJ & the pricier GW-5000D-1. I have the former and although it looks like a resin model it has a full steel case complete with a screw back. It feels different from a fully resin Casio in that it’s heavier and the strap material feels a little lighter and silkier. I wear mine quite a lot especially while traveling.

            Totally understated IMO!

I use it for synching the time with my phone when I'm travelling (which is not a lot at the moment).  I'm sure there's a load of other shit it can do, but a watch, for me, is to tell the time (and possibly date)….

Found this Seiko Arnold reissue in Nashville for CHEAP over the weekend and it’s great! I always want to wear my original but I worry about killing it on accident. This one should be more than capable.

This Seiko 5 rattles and didn’t hold the the time over a week.

Any of you own both the G-SHOCK GMW-B5000G-1JF and the GW-5000-1JF?  I'm trying to decide between the two.  Or, those of you that own one or the other, any irritations with the watch?

I like the bigger buttons on the GMW and I think that the bluetooth could come in handy (I heard you can press a button on your watch to help locate your phone).  The GW has a battery indicator on the front display, which is practical, and it's about $100 cheaper.

Not buying just yet, just researching.  Maybe December or January.

I'm having my Citizen fixed (I broke the pin off and can't adjust time or date), and got this to tide me over… 70€ shipped, and it's a lot of fun. It's also weird how I still remembered how to adjust date and hour from way back in the eighties when I wore these kinds of things as a kid...

Edit: yes I'm in €urope but I use the 12 hour system.

This one is a great beater watch that I use a lot when traveling.  So I haven’t really used it much in the past 13 months…  Freemans Sporting Club special edition:

Here's my SLA023 on an engineers strap, this thing is burly AF and the finishing rivals/beats many of the 'high end' watches I've seen/owned. Keeps great time too, runs roughly +-1s/day

I don't know if you switched to the smart watch for the same reason as me, but I've been sticking to my Casio atomic watches because if I can't trust the time on my watch, it's just mechanical jewelry.  Don't get me wrong, I've got non-functional jewelry, but I need to know the correct time without taking my phone out, especially with the 50,000 Zoom meetings I need to attend 😃
