I recently received tenure at my university. I’m excited since it’s the culmination of a lot of hard work and it also gives my family some stability moving forward, which can be in short supply nowadays.

Yes. It's really competitive here. It took me years to just find the job, then all the work to actually achieve tenure. Glad that process is over!

A 5.2 earthquake hit around 8:10 this AM. Kind of rare for this area, centered around 70 miles north of me. I definitely felt it. One cat just looked at me, then Nala ran for cover.

Haha, I just checked my own stats
Just over 5 years a member, spent just under 30 days on the forum….the last two years personally have been tough with changes in jobs and now the current COVID19 situation, but I am trying to get more actively involved.
I just love this place and all you fine folks....thanks for being here as I get back into being more active here

We’re having a super rainy month. Already accumulated four times the average August rainfall. Last four days it has drizzled pretty much nonstop. Soil is supersaturated and last night we got hit by a strong and chilly southern blast which easily toppled a large and healthy tree in our neighborhood. Caused a big explosion/spark as it snagged on the 380 volt lines.
There were about 60 similar emergency calls throughout the city so it took the electric utility crews a while to get to us.
Freaky bit was that for several hours the AC was sparking and running through the soggy tree branches and it would briefly light up in flames. Didn’t get any pics of the best part of the show being afraid of an AC shock with the ground totally flooded.
But we’re back to normal now. Good thing it didn’t happen during an IH sale or coveted product launch as we were off internet for 6 hours!
