Yes that would be a great use for them.

In case it isn't easily seen, that configuration looks kind of like a little robot man. I was just getting ready to change it when this occured to me. I think I'll keep it like this for a while.

Very interesting, I have a pair of those lanterns on my keys. Would be neat if someone could make some in sterling!

I've had the black version of this one for a while and it's one of my most worn items. EDC really. Decided to add the tan version.

                  Thought so.  Thanks.

The Frisco is going to be my next chain purchase.  I've got a curb chain and two ball chains and I've been eyeballing the Frisco chain forever now.

I have a genuine question about this brand: Why are the items they sell priced so high?

They make a nice product, but they traditional just use silver which is not a very expensive metal… Yet the price on their items is in the thousands.... I could buy pounds of silver for that price.

Is it the craftsmanship on the items that is driving the price up? Or the brand itself just being marketed as being very expensive?

                    Thanks!

The argument that one could buy a load of silver for the same price completely misses the point.  I can pop down the road and buy a ton of carbon fibre, but it makes a shit fishing rod.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about….

This bracelet would cost $1300.00 if good art sold it:

                          https://www.etsy.com/listing/794304458/dragon-bracelet-mens-sterling-silver?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=sterling+silver+dragon+bracelet&ref=sr_gallery-1-22&organic_search_click=1&pro=1&frs=1

I'm just wondering why that is the case. The material is the same, and the finishing on the item appears to be comparable... It just seems like a wild markup. I'm trying to understand the jewelry world here. What makes good art justifiably 4x more than this bracelet?

                          Thanks

Edited to add: Giles beat me to it w his fishing rod analogy but I’ve owned my fair share of high end silver and GoodArt is by far the best I’ve seen. I’ve sold my King Baby, John Hardy, Konstantino, and even an IH piece to by more GA. The pieces have character, style, and shit hot quality.

At the risk of being facetious GAH would never make that bracelet.

For starters, the design of the chain links and head is traditional South East Asian. You can buy that sort of thing on Bali for even less than they are asking here. Why? Because the silver is not great quality and even less expensive and because the makers there are probably trained as kids to do one thing and one thing only. They then spend their life casting those links and getting paid not a lot. The same goes for the heads.

GAH links are individually cast, out of excellent quality silver. They are individually treated to the level that some designs are individually stamped. All the GAH gear is made in LA by a small team of highly skilled craftsmen. That Hollywood address, attention to detail and level of proficiency adds a bit to your overheads.

Secondly, go and compare that clasp to a GAH clasp. It may be four times the price but a GAH clasp is 100 times better.

There’s a thirdly, fourthly, and a whole load morely, but I’ll jump to finally… everything GAH does is art as well as artisanal. There is wit, humour, function in counterpoint with luxury in what they do. It is witchcraft as much as it is handcraft. And while they are often inspired by design staples, everything they do is original.

You can go to Walmart to buy an art print to hang on your wall, but an original piece by a talented artist, is going to cost you.

This makes a lot of sense.. so it's being treated more along the lines of an artistic creation as opposed to a mass produced item. I always express skepticism whenever I see the intrinsic value of the materials used in construction to be far far far less than the produced item.

But that skepticism goes out the window with art…. Take for example: the materials used in a Picasso are probably 50 bucks, yet the painting can be worth 50 million. It makes sense now. I didn't understand the artistic one of a kind creating that they are doing.

I can definitely get behind that.

No offense to anyone who may own that bracelet or likes that bracelet but to me it just looks cheap, gaudy, outdated, and has an aura of trying a little too hard if that makes sense.  In addition to all of the things others have mentioned above….at the end of the day I just love the style and design of GAH jewelry.  No other brand out there catches my eye like GA.  Plain and simple.  It's original, unique, and timeless.  I also love the west coast/Mexican influenced flair you will find in some pieces like the Jimmy Cross and Sacred Heart pendant.  It speaks to me.

Lol, I won a bracelet like that in a pool game in Phnom Penh about 20 years ago. Used it to pay for a tuk-tuk ride about a month later.

I'm sorry but it seems an odd question for the IH forum. This whole place advocates for items whose quality and artisanal nature set them far above their respective peer groups. They are designed and made by experienced people who take their craft to an entirely different level. Commodities these are not and their prices reflect the time invested, experience accumulated, and respect earned.

Apart from the incredible workmanship, unique (sometimes whimsical) designs, and robust build quality, I love GAH especially for the people behind the brand. Josh and Rachel are amazing individuals and great human beings. It the same relationship I have with my independent watchmaker friends. You may initially enter this world for the products but you stay for the people.
