Rivet and Hide
-
Let's start by saying we hope that you and your loved ones are keeping well. We are all safe and well at Rivet & Hide. Our stores have been closed for almost 2 weeks now but we continue to operate online.
Twice a week one of our team visits each store to process orders and arrange a DHL collection. We have temporarily extended our returns policy to 90 days so that you can order in confidence and not worry about any delays returning an item due to local restrictions. All we ask is that you keep us informed of your intention to return anything you order during the normal 2-3 week window.Your support over the last two weeks is helping us get through these times in both a practical and emotional sense. Thank you to everyone who has placed orders. We appreciate that for many your focus will be elsewhere.
We placed our order with Matsuda on a trip to Japan last autumn and it arrived shortly after the bricks and mortar stores closed last week. Who is Matsuda - without doubt one of the top eyewear manufacturer's in the world with a level of quality you rarely see.
Innovation and experimentation have been a part of Matsuda’s DNA since Mitsuhiro Matsuda founded his fashion house in Tokyo in 1967.
One of his biggest successes was the launch of an eyewear collection in 1989. With a distinctively Japanese approach and avant-garde aesthetic he blazed his own very unique path. Gothic architecture, Art Deco and industrial design are constant influences in Matsuda designs to this day.
Each frame is an artwork in itself that uses the finest metals - pure titanium, stainless steel, silver and gold as well as sculpted Japanese acetate. All incredibly lightweight.
They are hand made in the city of Sabae, Japan, and involve over 250 steps by craftsmen and women with unrivalled skill. Every hinge, temple and component is thoughtfully considered. This is luxury eyewear, expertly executed, and as pleasing to the hand as it is to the eye.Matsuda 10610H Round Titanium Glasses are inspired by safety glasses worn during the machine era, the 10610H features a round lens shape with contrasting perforated side shield and sculpted Japanese acetate temples.
Taking inspiration from the popular pince-nez style of the 1800s, the 10601H features a round lens shape with complimentary round nose pads and Matsuda's signature M+N engraving along the eye wire.
The M9014 from the Precious Collection is a classic P3 silhouette hand crafted of solid sterling silver and finished in gold vermeil. This timeless style is updated and give a modern slant with semi flat sunglass lenses.
Inspired by glacier glasses, the M2031 is composed of Japanese acetate.
Considered as one of the most iconic sunglasses of modern days, the M3023 is a modified aviator made of aged Japanese acetate and titanium.
The M3086 is an updated take on a classic hexagonal style, hand crafted of lightweight and flexible beta titanium, and featuring Matuda's signature M+N engraving on the outside of the rim wire.
A modern take on the navigator shape crafted of high-grade titanium. The wide rim frame M3099 includes Matsuda's signature "M+N" detailing along the rim and finish options include a black PVD ion coating that was originally developed for the aerospace industry.

@Danny RnH just to say that I have been wearing Matsudas since then 1980s and they are still perfect. The workmanship is really as good as any glasses–-so thanks for carrying them and here's to good fortune. BTW, M3061 is my current favorite/go to pair and they are worth every farthing. Those who need an RX should know that I have no problem with the "sunglasses" designation---the lens are easily refitted by any optician. Rage on, calmly.
-
@profdbrk Thanks for the message. We are so excited to be carrying this brand. It is frustrating not to be able to show them in the physical stores whilst they are closed but once we open up again we will gets some additional styles.
The workmanship really blows me away. As someone who grew up short sighted I always struggled with any type of eyewear and that includes sunglasses. The lightweight but sturdy frames Matsuda creates have been a real revelation to me and we look forward to deepening our knowledge both of their craft and the brand itself. -
In these unprecedented times the close relationship between customers and small businesses such as ours has really come to the fore. We have been energised and gratified by the response shown in this difficult period, not only with messages of friendship and encouragement but through the essential lifeblood of income from those in a position to support us with online orders. We are keenly aware that for many their focus will be elsewhere right now and our thoughts are very much with those affected.
For a little light at the end of the tunnel, we would like to show our thanks and appreciation in the shape of a 10% off voucher generated on April orders which can be redeemed against any purchase storewide immediately upon the re-opening of our physical stores in London & Manchester (coupon redeemable either in store or online).
Any purchase over £150.00 GBP / €175 Euros / $200 USD made in April will qualify with a unique, personal code sent to you on receipt of your order. One code per person in this month.
Thank you all again for standing by us and allowing us to continue with our mission of making available the best that the world of denim and menswear has to offer.
Stay well and stay safe!

Fleurs de Bagne's ability to grow in technique and imagination with each season is earning them an ever growing and dedicated following and with good reason.
Just look at the design and texture of the ‘Bourgeron’ work jacket - a Sashiko stitch in a herringbone weave from Japan's Kuroki Mill. The fabric is double indigo dyed then gently stone washed for a beautiful softly faded tone and topped off with corozo nut buttons from specialists ‘Corne et Corozo’ of Lyon. Bourgeron includes three patch pockets to the outside plus one inside and all lovingly put together in France.
A great T shirt design can evoke a sense of time and place and the ‘Je ne Regrette Rien’ does just that - you can almost smell the smoke, wine and sea of a Marseille speakeasy at the turn of the last century. The body is a super soft loop-wheeled brushed cotton while the graphic is silk screen printed with water based biodegradable ink.
Rogue Territory's olive peacoat is the perfect seasonal transition piece and a great take on a classic design. The dialled up Japanese whipcord Jungle Cloth used in its construction delivers a huge depth of texture while raglan sleeves and welt pockets provide clean lines and a spot on drape.
Iron's Heart's 5 oz. cotton and linen chambray is released this year in classic western style. This shirt was a real winner in the work shirt version last year. If you missed out or simply prefer the western style 2020 is the year for you.
Good news also for all Iron Heart fans with a restock of the much awaited 777s-21 slim tapered cut in their signature 21 oz. denim. The 777 nails a modern fit while the long stapled cotton and relaxed weave of the denim provides surprising comfort and flexibility from the off.
Iron Heart's Modified type III Trucker is back in too, this time in their 14 oz. twisted yarn selvedge denim. With a slightly trimmer silhouette and longer body to allow for side hand warmer pockets, this hits the mark on all counts.

Rogue Territory’s River Wash Supply Jacket looks and feels as fresh as the spring itself. It also offers a lesson in how to deliver a pre-faded denim. Stone washed with no chemicals or softeners, and a low water use, the result brings to mind a much loved and well-worn favourite jacket.
The Supply jacket from RGT offers a modern, tailored cut and beautifully finished details. This iteration is their Proprietary 15 oz. Japanese denim - sturdy and tough but with a big helping hand towards the breaking in and fading. How much further can you take it?
Indigofera's SS20 shirting range has arrived and is ready to satisfy the needs of all who like their clothing strong and sturdy.
Kicking off for the spring is the Delray. An ideal transitional piece constructed from a cool and breezy Japanese linen poplin and given an extra layer of depth by being over-dyed in ‘Marshall’ black. Features half-length sleeves which look spot on either unrolled or cuffed to a standard short sleeve.

Indigofera re-imagine their classic Copeland shirt with a 9 oz brown duck canvas. This mid-weight and extra textured material is set off with brass logo snap buttons, copper rivets and perfectly balanced with super soft denim lining to the collar and cuffs. A true work shirt cut showing a straight hem with rolled seam.

The Alamo is work shirt inspired in both style and cut. With a hefty and durable cotton twill Japanese weave and Corozo nut buttons this is a solid delivery in every respect. Available this season in a stylish brick red.

@Giles @Madame Buttonfly Thank you. It's like going back to the early R&H years taking photos again ourselves.

We just received one of our most anticipated SS20 deliveries from Iron Heart - The corduroy Modified Type III in indigo. The 14 wale corduroy holds the indigo really well so we look forward to seeing one that has been worn in over time. The Iron Heart trucker fit is a real winner with all customers and this jacket is offered from small up to XXXL.
We have also restocked the IHSH-218 "Johnny Cash" denim shirt with black warp and weft. This classic western comes in a 12 oz selvedge denim and uses black permed snaps.

The Derby Shoe is based on an original design by Edwin Viberg who founded Viberg back in the 1930s. These Canadian bootmakers with whom we have worked closely for 7 years remodelled the old patterns to refine the fit and produce a shoe that is elegant and fit for purpose for the modern day.
This Derby shoe uses Oiled Camel Calf leather from CF Stead, a tannery located in England's Yorkshire since the 1890s. The shoe has a leather mid-sole, kip lining and British made Itsole studded commando rubber sole and is 360 degrees storm-welted. This classic design will easily transition formal with less formal attire and will serve as a valid addition to any gentleman’s wardrobe.

Due to popular demand we have also re-run the Tobacco Chamois Service Boot with Commando sole and stitch-down construction.

The I****HSH-247 unbrushed flannels by Iron Heart function really well as a year round shirt. At 9 oz in fabric weight they work as stand alone piece in spring, summer and autumn and easy to wear with your N1 or any other warm winter jacket in the cold winter weather.
These 247 indigo variety come in Red and Dark Indigo or Indigo and Dark Indigo. Being a year round shirt it won't take long before you see them develop some great character with wear. They come in the classic western style with back yoke and logo'd Permex snaps. Available Small through to XXXL. -
The first drop from Pure Blue Japan's new season collection has landed. It will impress both staunch admirers and newcomers to the brand alike.
The ability to imbue fabrics with texture and character is one of PBJ's defining characteristics. The SR-019, ‘Super Rough’ denim perfectly demonstrates this. Tipping the scales at a healthy 18 oz , this denim oozes texture with plenty of slub (uneven yarns within the weave) and a good dose of nep (the random protrusion of white cotton fibres). These jeans are cut in the 019 relaxed tapered fit. Get on board and be among the first to see where this denim journey leads.
Utilising the traditional and beautiful sashiko stitch we gain an insight into PBJ’s other defining feature – their expertise and skill in fabric dyeing. The ideal complement to lighter and faded denim, the double black material has both warp and weft yarns dyed black.
Available in two classic stylings: the pleated breast Type II and Trucker Type III. Both have a modified cut which allows the addition of hand warmer pockets.
The Indigo Check Flannel Shirt's light and breezy washed and worn look is spot on for the time of year. Yarn dyed indigo threads allow for further fading to contrast with the blues and red that run through the weave.
We have also received a full restock (including additional larger sizes) of the x-019. This is their signature, slubby 14 oz denim in the Relaxed Tapered cut. Ideal for those who like a little extra room through the thigh and top block whilst keeping a smart taper.

The latest jackets from Fine Creek Leathers turn the idea that horsehide needs to be super rigid on its head. Using their own special tanning technique FCL have developed a 1.3mm equine leather that is still hefty yet supple and buttery soft allowing for an easy ride during the initial break in period.
The leather is sourced from one of Europe’s finest tanneries and veg-tanned with an aniline finish by the Himeji tannery in Japan.
This 1.3mm horsehide, like that used for the renowned Leon jacket, is also teacore - whereby the outermost layer of the hide is veg-dyed black with the layer beneath the surface tanned in a lighter brown tone. Over time the stress areas of the jacket will fade to reveal the lighter layers beneath the surface. The precise teacore “recipe” of tree barks and process is a tightly guarded secret. We do know it is time-consuming and laborious and always results in a truly premium leather.Edward is the first of the jackets to use this new leather. It is a double rider’s jacket with a quilted rayon lining, original FCL buckles, and an easy to use quality zipper by Clix which has a subtle, muted sheen. The high-quality tailoring matched by the superlative stitching elevates the style of this classic piece to another level. Wearing it on or off a bike you’re going to look - and feel - pretty darn good.
We introduced the Tyler jacket in sheepskin at the beginning of the year. It is now available in this easy to wear horsehide. The rayon quilted lining provides smooth comfort while a short collar and minimalist detailing give the jacket a modern and up to date feel.
Hiut Denim and Rivet & Hide both started out in 2012. One of our first orders was for their selvedge denim jeans. We are celebrating our relationship and close affinity with these Welsh jeans-makers with a small run of the original Kuroki selvedge denim that uses natural indigo. It has a rich deep indigo hue and offers some sharp high contrast fades with wear. Available in the SkinR fit - Hiut’s slimmest cut. ‘Do one thing well’ is Hiut’s mission statement and the proof is right here.

Earlier this year Pure Blue Japan released denim jackets with a natural indigo warp and Sumi black ink dyed weft. The jeans in this stunning and unparalleled selvedge are now available in both the Slim Tapered AIBK-013 and Relaxed Tapered AIBK-019 cuts.
Sumi ink is used in traditional Japanese art and calligraphy typically against a white background. Sumi is made using the soot of pine branches that are burned from trees found on the mountainsides close to Nara and Suzuka prized for the quality of its ink.
The indigo is naturally harvested from the Tokushima prefecture. This is the paradigm of "artisanal" and the laborious efforts involved to make this denim are clear to behold.
PBJ has released the Double Black Sashiko selvedge in 5-pocket slim tapered jeans style. Again, this fabric highlights their expertise and skill in fabric dyeing with both warp and weft of this custom woven fabric sulphur black dyed.
Pure Blue Japan now caters for anyone looking for a selvedge denim in a lighter shade of indigo. The BG-019 (Relaxed Tapered) uses warp yarns that are first dyed with indigo and then over-dyed grey delivering a lighter blue hue. Both processes make use of rope-dyeing, meaning the weft remains white, so you can expect contrast fades with wear. The weight of the denim is 14.5 oz, and as to be expected with the "Slub Masters" of Japan, has great texture.
PBJ's NP (neppy) selvedge denim released last year in the 019 Relaxed Tapered fit makes a return for those who prefer the Slim Tapered silhouette. The 17.5 oz. NP-013 has plenty of nep in the fabric, adding extra texture which allows the rich indigo to crock and fade beautifully with wear.

Studio D’Artisan ushers in the warmer weather with style and quality.

We've recently received a comprehensive restock of rings, pendants, bracelets, necklaces and accessories from **Good Art Hlywd. **
New in is The Cash Grab - a key ring with a tongue in cheek name referring to the Pet Rock (best refer to Google) phenomenon of the 1970s. It does, however, serve as a great and aesthetically pleasing addition to the GAH range of key rings. A fun and versatile piece with a multitude of uses in our new contact cautious times – It might not be able to pour your beer but it's still a pretty cool tool.
The Bandana Clip was originally intended as hair clip but Josh Warner, creator of all things Good Art, uses his as a bandana clip hence the name.

This spring we were excited to launch Matsuda as our latest eyewear brand. This luxury label from Japan manufactures sunglasses and optical frames of remarkable quality and beauty. Materials range from ultra-lightweight Japanese acetate to even lighter titanium with gradient tinted lenses with full UV protection. Designs range from Panto with high hinge and full base, to elegant oval or round frames and Matsuda's take on the Aviator style.
With a lighter than air feel in the construction of both frames and lenses it’s easy to forget you are wearing glasses at all. Admiring glances will definitely remind you. Take a look at our latest additions.

Fine Creek Leather's Mossir line combines the technical with the traditional, the classic with the creative, and lights the way for warmer days with the latest drop.
Owner and designer Yoshinori hails from the mountainous Hokkaido region of Japan. The summery "John" shirt is inspired in its pattern by the traditional artwork of the region's indigenous Ainu people. This is paired with a highly advanced Supplex nylon from Dupont. Water repellent and anti-wrinkle, the fabric will keep you as cool and smooth as the shirt looks.
"Gregory" utilises cordura nylon, renowned for its moisture wicking and quick drying properties, here blended with cotton allowing for an extra level of comfort to weave through the material. A relaxed, long sleeve cut further boosts the casual credentials. Able to be worn as a layer or standalone.
Mossir chose a classic half-sleeve football shirt design to showcase the vintage poly used on the "Thomas" T-Shirt and is styled with a straight yoke to both front and rear. Cotton feel to the hand, yet technical in function, with a super fast drying ability that allows you to work up a sweat and cool down easy.

The Flat Head is back with some long awaited core essentials.
The D306 jean comes in a super slim cut but still allows for a medium/high rise and some breathing room in the thigh.
For those unfamiliar with the TFH’s signature ‘Pioneer’ denim the D306 is a great place to see what all the fuss is about. 14.5 oz, solid and crispy to start, softening gently with wear. "Tate-ochi" describes in Japanese the "vertical falling" fading process and is beautifully illustrated as this denim fades out.
The Pioneer denim worn solidly for 10 months

The Flat Head plain heavyweight tees have a loyal following - it’s pretty much the perfect plain T-shirt. Loopwheeled and seamless body. Triple stitch no sag collar. Heavyweight 100% cotton fabric. All put together with a classic and versatile fit neither too slim nor overtly relaxed. We jump straight in with these here. You should too.
