Best music venue people have been to?

Royal Albert Hall is pretty special to watch music, amazing sounds (or acoustics for a better term).

On a more local scale, I've seen plenty of decent gigs in Portsmouth in simple shitty pubs!

The devil is in the detail..

Wow, the boat venue is great!

Red Rocks is my favorite overall and favorite outdoor venue I've been to (haven't been to the Gorge in George, WA though). Telluride Town Park, and Mishawaka in the Poudre Canyon are also favorites. Love the Pritzker Pavillion in Chicago for a more urban outdoor venue.

Mission Ballroom is my favorite indoor venue as mentioned, because it is custom-made for music lovers by music lovers and is never oversold. It doesn't have perhaps the charm of more organic venues such as converted theatres, bowling alleys, or boats, but in terms of pure comfort it can't be beat. I really love Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY and feel like I can sense the magic that's happened there. Tipitina's in New Orleans is a sentimental favorite as well. And to a lesser extent, so is First Avenue in Minneapolis.

We'll be living in Manhattan Beach next month, so I'm hoping to tick Hollywood Bowl off the list and definitely will be seeing music at the Fonda Theatre.

I'll have to think about other favorite venues–the Nick Cave one was the Orpheum in Minneapolis, which was great, especially being within spitting distance of the activities.

          Think it, be it.

Oh my days… the things I got up to at Thekla in the 90’s. That was quite a flashback you initiated, Sam. Glad to hear it is still a thing.

I used to love a place in Charlotte called the Pterodactyl Club.  It was a grotty hole on the wrong side of the tracks that held maybe 1,000 or so people fully packed, but the list of bands that stopped there throughout the 80s and 90s was pretty stellar. An old roommate saw Nirvana pre-Nevermind, which he was quite proud of.  My favorite show there was They Might Be Giants; it involved a glockenspiel solo and a conga line…  It closed in 1999, after someone was stabbed to death in the parking lot.

The one band I have never, and thought I would never, seen live is Rage Against the Machine.  They just announced a new tour.  Ticket Booked!

I bought tickets for RATM this morning too! I never thought I would have the chance to see them perform.

I saw Rage at Lalapalooza 3 in 1993. They were the second act. And they would have stolen the show if it wasn’t for Alice In Chains who destroyed. What a pit. Tool was there too that year. And primus.

Ditto. Saw it in Chicago. Know your enemy popped up on my Pandora yesterday. I did the math and realized it’s 28 yo ???

late to this party but I too saw Rage at this show in 93.  Amazing performance, pretty much exactly what you would expect them to be.  This show/band was when I popped my mosh pit cherry.

I'm curious to see how their live performance will hold up so many years later though.  If Slipknot can still put on a killer show with amazing energy (which they can, saw them this past August) than I'm sure Rage can do it as well…only thing is I'm not sure Rage still has the chemistry that Slipknot does though.  We shall see.

I was at Red Rocks once, and one of the bands that was playing that night was sound checking. Sounded amazing. Saw a guy in the gift shop who looked like he was in one of the bands. Started to talk to him and found out he was the singer for Slipknot. Said you must look forward to the drum solo,to which he replied no way our drummer can do a solo at this  altitude.

The U2 gig at Red Rocks immortalised on VHS was a hot item when I was a teenager. Pretty Iconic stuff if you grew up in the 80’s.

Dave Matthews Band Live at Red Rocks ‘95 immortalized it for me. Also the U2 Zoo TV tour that was broadcast on the radio in the US was essential listening for me when I was 8. Ah the memories…

It’s definitely a Bucket List place for me to go to a concert at. The Black Crowes will be there this Summer.

Best music venue for me is most definitely different to most memorable!

Camden Roundhouse sound engineers are on point, and I've enjoyed so great shows there. Most memorable?

Wetland and CBGBs in NYC in the early 90s
Stone Pony in NJ early 90s
                                        The Marquee in London, 90s
London Union Chapel for Mudhoney, Love Battery, Ahghan Whigs, Nirvana shows all around 1990
The Powerhouse for Bikini Kill in the mid 90s, to see Mark Lamar get owned!
The Garage in London for many a hardcore and death metal show.
The old Wembley stadium for GnR in 91, just to hear 75000 people singing from out of nowhere by Faith No More. That was incredible.

I've had amazing box seats and floor seats at the Royal Albert Hall but found the acoustics (rather than sound engineering) not to be good.

Security restrictions in the late 90s started to kill the atmosphere of gigs. Accountability and insurance really put an end to my stage diving career!
