          @AdamJ:

I regularly talk about my want for a CPO made from SBG denim.

What would your ideal CPO fabric be? Can be as wild as you want!

The 21oz. Black Wabash from the logger pants, the 17oz. Hickory Stripe from the painters pants, the 14oz. Indigo Kersey, or the 13oz. Serge in a dark red would all be fantastic options in my opinion.

              Example:
SBG pea coat or M-65 would have definitely been a no-brainer for me

Yes please.  But how about a 14oz SBG, has that been discussed with Haraki?

The 14oz bb is very similar to SBG, so no way will we create something with such a close similarity…

Well, in regards to just this immediate SBG discussion, so did the pea coats and the MANY attempts at an m-65. If sale rail status is a deal breaker, it looks like we are 0 for 3.

We sold LOADS of Sateen M65's and they normally went into the outlet when the next iteration was announced.  They sell so well we are re-releasing them in olive and black later this year.

If we take 30 or 40 (or more) of say, a sateen M65 and we eventually have to put a few sizing outliers in the outlet, then that is fine by me.  If we order 10 or 12 of something and have to put 50% of them in the outlet, then that's a different kettle of fish.

What is a deal-breaker is, if we struggle to sell something and end up tying capital in a slow mover when we could have gone longer on something more popular.

Does that mean we won't continue to try new stuff, of course not, but we do run a once-bitten-twice-shy policy.  So if something flops, it'll take a lot of persuasion to convince us to make it again.

It is a truism that people think that what they like will be liked by everybody and vica versa.  If I made what everyone personally thought was the best garment that could be made, I'd have gone out of business a long time ago.  I used to do it a lot more than I do now, and made a lot of poor business decisions as a result.  I also did not make stuff that I personally disliked, that was also bad business.

I think we have to accept that a lot of what we like won’t get made, ever, however perfect it might seem to us.

On the other hand things change. Blanket lining was unpopular a few years ago but the masses like it now. CPO’s seem a big deal for folks now, they weren’t anywhere near as interesting recently. The other big change is work shirts which have finally come into their own. So you never know.

I thing predicting these sea changes, reacting to the market and staying original is a job many would like to think we’d be good at but we’d most likely suck at. The crew at IH are probably best suited to making those decisions, by dint of years of experience and getting things right (and wrong earlier).

With regards to marketing, the changes there are also massive at IH but even with some pretty great strategies and a range of platforms, some things will fail to capture the imagination and do so.

I love his 60 too. I nearly pulled the trigger on the 60 many times but balked. Foolish

                                  Maybe so. Maybe not

Blanket lining was unpopular? That's very strange to me, it's so classic, particularly for fans of "heritage brands" (though a term that IH would be more loosely coupled to than most).

Unpopular is maybe a little strong, but there were a few things released that didn’t do great and when subsequently asked for the thinking was that they didn’t move too quickly. Things change, happily.

I think that much of the lack of demand for the blanket and sherpa lined product was more of a sizing issue than anything else.

I am talking to H about a blanket lined Type III, properly sized, when I meet with him in a month.

It's hard to be definitive as to why item XYZ didn't sell. Sometimes the measurements are off, or some other features turn people off. Over several models, I suppose it can different.
