And, if you care (I do), whatever you sell here is likely to find a good home where someone will really appreciate it.

      Think it, be it.

With the snaps, it’s more the female part of the snap that I’m concerned about. The male half is pretty smooth and harmless, but the inside of the female snap has an edge to it that might eventually snag something at sometime. Better safe than sorry for me, even though the likelihood of an issue is minimal. “First world problems” type of thing

So. I sold my black vest to get another cotton duck vest, as I have this idea of making a brown battle vest.
I already know that I want an AK backpatch, there are two similar designs. One is very rare but I have hopes of getting it, the other one is cheaper and available.
I won't tell you which one is which but would like to know which ones goes better with the vest.

Side by side on the right
The vest is of course this one:

Colour wise I think they will both work very well. If I had to choose I’d go for the one with the green background.

Green is definitely the better match….  But I personally think the black background looks like a cooler patch as there appears to be more sewn into it rather than printed on.  Can't go wrong either way.

Hey dudes, sorry in advance if this is TMI…

I have been wearing my 101J almost every day since August. The fades are starting to peek out and it has broken in quite well.

The only problem I have is the underarm smell in the armpit of the jacket. I can't seem to get rid of it. I have soaked, washed with detergent and tried home remedies like white vinegar/dish soap solution followed by baking soda sprinkled on the area to leave overnight.

None of these have worked completely and I would prefer wash as little as possible to achieve high contrast fades. I shower almost daily and wear deodorant every day.

I see a lot of you guys wearing super worn in denim jackets. Do you have a secret to keep the smell away or do you just deal with it? I wonder if I'm being over sensitive to the smell (I did quit smoking cigarettes a year and a half ago...)  but I also worry people may smell me at work.

Any and all suggestions are what I need from ya'll.

I usually just throw my denims in the washing machine inside out on cold/delicate with woolite dark. But, since you’re trying to preserve fades maybe a hand wash with minimal agitation with Fels Naptha shaving would do well.

I do what Anesthetist does, inside out, hang dry with jeans and I still get high-contrast fades. I'd think a jacket would be the same.

It's funny to look at the wash instructions on vintage denim… Not exactly following the conventional wisdom of modern denim nerds.

Inside out, wash with soap and crank the temperature up a little. I used to fear higher than 30 degrees C and no-spin but quickly realised on the one-washed/sanforised stuff you can blitz it at 60c+ and it's fine.

Get a decent liquid soap in there and it should solve it!

Cool, thanks guys. I'll start with the most simple- hand wash. If this does not work I'll throw it in the wash again. Problem is, the hot water isn't hooked up properly in the house where I rent a room. Was supposed to be fixed a long time ago but I suppose they "forgot" as they primarily use cold wash.

@Oaktavia The above is quality advice. Just give the thing a damn good wash. They negative thing with washing quality denim with relation to fades is if you wash it all the time. That's what damages evo. Washing your clothes is actually evo, as long as you only do it when necessary. If anything a bloody good wash at 60C with proper soap will accelerate evo. I have an IHV-21 made of this denim and a good wash did wonders.

Should I worry about shrinkage with warm or hot water with the 101J? I have only used very cold water so far to wash and I feel like that is why it smells still after previous wash attempts. Or as before (if you remember) should I stretch out the denim when still damp?

Sorry dude. I’m someone who is prone to sweating and it doesn’t take long for my manly odour to permeate denim. When that happens I wash it. Anything else is weird in my book. I didn’t pay $400 for awesome denim to smell like I don’t know how to take care of myself.

Once washed old chap, you’ll be fine. It will shrink back to where it was when new (all denim does) but won’t go smaller like unsanforised. It will then stretch out again with wear.

Wearing while damp will speed the up, bit I find giving the seams a jolly good stretch by hand while still damp works really well. I’m thinking side seams, sleeves, doing up the buttons and stretching the placket. Then grab the hem in the middle of the back, and the collar and do the same.
