Hello, so I planned on running a 1/2 marathon on September 14th but a good
Injury killed that date. The foot is Nearly better and I want to
Run a 1/2 on October 6th. Does anyone know of good shirt term training plans? Thanks!

      Maybe so. Maybe not

Well gents, sad to say I will not be participating in the Plain 100 after all.
Went hiking/scrambling with two friends last week to visit a hard to get to summit in Indian Peaks Wilderness. Got most of the way there, and past all of the most difficult movement (the first time, this was an out and back), when I tripped on the easy talus walking about .2 miles away from the goal. Put my hands up of course. Heard a pop when I hit the ground, lots of pain, and saw a small but obvious deformity in my left wrist.
So still did the summit and hiked 6.5 hours back out in up to third class terrain. Lots of easier but loose talus and and scree along the way too.
I broke the left Radius about an inch below the wrist. Currently still in a splint, should get a real cast this week. My first broken bone ever! Bad timing I guess- was really looking forward to this one. Thought about it for a few days, but I essentially can’t use my left hand at all right now.
But in all, was able to get out under my own power with a lot of route finding help from my two friends I was with. Not seriously injured, though the hike out effing sucked. This happened at around 12500 feet- had to get back above 13200 to get out. And echoing through my mind, people die up there. There were plenty of chances for a fatal or higher consequence fall that day, so glad it wasn’t worse.
Plain will still be there next year.

        Ihsh-201!

Some of the terrain we crossed pre fall. Able to find an easier route back.

@mclaincausey either south or north I think. We started at Long Lake, went up Apache’s east ledges, and then northwestish to Mount George. The primary objective was Iroquois, which isn’t too hard itself, but with no easy approach…

It’s not ranked, but was an IPW finisher for 2/3 of our group, including myself. Didn’t take much to convince me to go on!

@mclaincausey thank you! Fortunate it wasn’t more serious. If I do ever get to ride in a helicopter, I hope it’s on my terms!

Bummer @neversummer!  I feel your pain.  I broke my scaphoid in my left hand about a month ago in a bike race.  Really sucks not being able to ride outside the last nice days of the year.

It could have been worst though…  My wife works in medicine and saw a guy the day after my crash who crashed going slightly slower than me and he broke his collarbone, 7 ribs, and had a collapsed lung.

@BloodnThunder True. Both of us were lucky to essentially walk away. I follow you on strava, glad to see you are back on the trainer, though you’re also right that it would be better to be outside. I know it’s replaceable/repairable but sounds like your bike has been injured a few times this year too. Ouch$$$$!
I always worry about my wife when she’s racing, crits in particular. That said, all of my worst cycling crashes have been on mountain bike and caused by myself.

@neversummer that's probably the best thing about the most recent crash….  Virtually zero damage to the bike outside of a scrape on the shifter and seat.  First thing I did after the crash was pop up and check to make sure the frame was ok as I had just gotten it custom painted a few weeks prior.  Thankfully not a scratch.  The previous frame....  Not so lucky in it's crash.  Crits can be pretty intense but they're super fun.

That's the brutal thing about MT biking.  If you're pushing yourself or just not paying attention the odds of crashing are way higher than road biking.

I know a few people who gave up road racing for the same reason.  One bad crash just caused a mental barrier to be built they can't seem to get through or they have a come to Jesus moment and realize the risk is not worth it to them anymore….  I'm hoping I don't have a bad enough crash I get to that point.

I'm at that point where I'm not able to do much more quality work with only 2 weeks left, so just one more workout this week, then time to rest up, then we'll see where the chips lie!
