Something a little different for this thread. It used to be a very common thing for drummers to battle. This one between Ed Shaughnesey and Buddy Rich is one of my favorites,as they were both hitting on all cylinders. At one point Ed looks like he thinks he’s winning at which point Buddy shifts into another gear doing cross sticking and one handed rolls. Enjoy!
Buddy Rich was ridiculous. Completely self-taught and was a child prodigy. I got to see him play a shopping mall in my home town and it was unforgettable.
http://drummerworld.com/ has a lot of excellent drumming clips. Tons of Buddy Rich.
And here is a famous collaboration between Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Gadd, and Dave Weckl.

Saw Buddy many times when I was growing up.At 3 he was called the Prince of the Traps. One of my favorite clips was when he was on the Jerry Lewis show. It’s pretty funny. Also liked when he battled Animal on Sesame St. He was a notorious prick, hence the famous Buddy’s dead joke. The Buddy Rich bus tape on YouTube will blow your mind. Big fan of the Drummersworld video archive, and will check out the ones you recommended. Thanks.

@Stuart.T That new Ossuarium album rips as does the Better Oblivion Community Center. I also had no idea Aldous Harding had a new album coming out. That single is great and I can't wait to hear the rest of it.
In pop news, Carly Rae Jepsen has been tearing it up lately and her two newest tracks are super great…
Mal Blum's newest single has also been in almost constant rotation since I heard it a few days ago. They are playing with Lucy Dacus near me next week and I can't wait...

@mclaincausey Watched the Buddy Rich drum tribute with Gadd,Weckl, and Colaiuta. Can’t believe I’ve never seen that. Just phenomenal. Thank you! On another note Buddy Rich was trained by,the now legendary,Henry Adler. He taught Buddy how to read music, and helped him to write his first book which for me ,is to this day,the drumming Bible. When I was a kid it was a big deal to get Henry Adler agree to teach you. He got $30 for a half hour lesson, which seemed astronomical back then.

No problem!
Do you recall the tribute album Neil Peart coordinated for Rich? I can't remember for sure but that trip may have coincided with that.
Check the anecdote out about Adler and Rich @Jett129 :
One of Adler's former students introduced Adler to Buddy Rich. "The kid told me he played better than Krupa. Buddy was only in his teens at the time and his friend was my first pupil. Buddy played and I watched his hands. Well, he knocked me right out. He did everything I wanted to do, and he did it with such ease. When I met his folks, I asked them who his teacher was. 'He never studied', they told me. That made me feel very good. I realized that it was something physical, not only mental, that you had to have."

I knew that Neil Peart was a big fan and had an entire room at his house dedicated to Buddy Rich. This is the first I’m hearing of a tribute album.
Checkit: I have not heard Volume 2, but here's the original from 1994 @Jett129

Just learned of Keith Flint's death. I'm sure a bunch of us here have enjoyed the Prodigy's music since our wayward youths.

This is from my favorite non-heavy band/ album in a while. So catchy. I could listen to this whole album on repeat and the use of non-typical instruments is very refreshing.

@Filthy Hi Mike, you may, or may not like a couple of these. Ignore Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard's name. They are a great Welsh doom spacerock band..
Holy Grove…bluesy doom from Portland, OR (so you know it has to be good...it's music, and it's from Portland!)
and Dilly Dally...instantly became a favourite. It's Pixies, it's Babes in Toyland, It's Slowdive, It,s 90's greatness done by kids NOW! and Katie's VOICE! @emceeQ do you know this band??

now I just feel like a dirty old man…

@Stuart.T I had not heard of them until now, but I'm really diggin it. Thanks for sharing…
The new Venom Prison (super angry Welsh death metal) and Elizabeth Colour Wheel (shoegaze-y black metal) albums came out last week. Both are early contenders for album of the year for me....
