Power reserves are great for manual wind watches.

        Particularly for a manual diver.

Best guess without taking it to bits is 1980's

@Graeme what are your thoughts on "the first rolex" mate?
thinking sea dweller since it's 43mm, which doesn't makes it look tiny on my wrist ^^

clearly the wristband is missing a couple of links, but still i felt like i should run away with it 😉

@Finn666 I'm not the resident Rolex expert around here. Someone like @louisbosco might be able to advise better. 🙂

The GMT looks fine on you. It's a 40 mm case, and the Sea Dweller 4000 is 43 mm, so I think that'll work too. Provided the lugs don't project past the sides of your wrist, you'll be fine, and you'll adjust to thinking that the size of the watch is fine after a few weeks.

A bigger issue will be thickness. Some diver's watches can get quite chunky, an this makes them harder to slip under the cuff of a shirt.

The problem with getting a new Rolex is going to be supply. A huge amount of stock is being bought up by flippers, who then sell them onto the secondary market. The only time I've seen one of new GMTs, a Daytona, or a Deep Sea Sea Dweller in Melbourne has been in a dealer's window.

Lastly, there are rumours that the black and blue "Batman" GMT is going to be discontinued. So if you want that particular colour, you might want to move fast.

As a GMT II owner @Finn666 I suggest the Sub no date. Unless you're working multi-timezone all the time, and even then I think I'd go the Sub no date..A rolly is a piece of jewelry something clean is the way to go. A mate I worked with had the sub no date, we used to swap from time to time, we both preferred the idea of GMT II but on the wrist the sub no date won every time.

One thing I really appreciate about some of Omega's coaxial movements is that they have quickset hour hands even in the absence of a GMT complication. So, you get the benefit of adjusting to a local timezone (and I don't think the seconds hack, so you retain accuracy in doing so) without having the GMT complication. It's a pretty good compromise.

                                          Think it, be it.

Or you could get something like the IWC Timezoner, which you can switch your location by rotating the bezel. 😃

@Finn666 if you're not dead set on a Rolex, some of the Omegas could be an alternative. The black diver that @DougNg posted a few days ago could be an option instead of a Submariner. The advantage is you'll probably be able to get one without the dealer playing games with you, but the disadvantage is that resale value will be worse.

Otherwise, I'd be chatting up your local Rolex AD and seeing what the options are. I'm convinced that the shortage isn't as bad as is claimed, people regularly get quoted an 18 month wait, only for their watch to arrive in a couple of weeks. Personally, I'd be tempted to put my name down for a new Milgauss, which they seem to be hinting is coming at Basel.
