don’t understand The Rush connection at all.

If you don't see a connection Rush here, I don't know what to tell ya. When I first heard this, my first thought was how much it reminded me of the whimsy of Rush.

I was going by song arrangement and style, and didn’t get the technical complexity of a Rush song. I only saw Rush once and was kind of a casual fan. Not sure what you mean by the whimsy of Rush.

If you dive into their music a little, you'll find a lot of themes of fantasy and sci-fi. They're very technical and I would even consider some of their members to be virtuosos, but they also have a certain whimsical storytelling style that one can lost in. 2112, Farewell to Kings, and Hemispheres are three albums that cross into that territory.

Being a lifelong drummer, when I did finally get to see them,I didn’t take my eyes off of Neil Pert, who was absolutely astonishing. I think he also wrote all the lyrics for their songs.

I'm also a drummer. Well, I used to be. I still have my kit, but haven't touched it in about 5 years because my apartment is too small. You're correct, Peart wrote most of their lyrics, and it's hard to not focus on what he's doing.

What’s the last thing a drummer ever says to the band?…...Hey lets play one of my songs. Pert is also an avid motorcyclist, and wrote a very compelling journal of a trip he took after his wife and daughter died.

A little all over the place this morning…

Jessica Pratt's new record is most excellent...

Mono's new record is my favorite by them in quite a while...

Weakened Friends are a rippin band out of Portland, ME who put out on of my favorite records last year...

@emceeQ 3 of my favourites from last year:

Tess Parks and Anton Newcombe. A match made in heaven:

Emma Ruth Rundle. I only discovered her back catalogue and work wit Mariages midway through last year, but her output has been a favourite since. Chelsea Wolfe is the media darling (I love her too). But Emma is the real deal:

Dirty Friends came out of nowhere for me. Really enjoyed this album, and what a Stella 'supergroup' Corin Tucker, Kurt Bloch, Peter Buck, Scoot McCaughey,  and William Rieflin…seriously, so many unsung Seattle and indie legends:

@Stuart.T Long time fan of Emma Ruth Rundle.  Saw Marriages when they toured with Deafheaven in 2013 was blown away.  On Dark Horses was definitely a standout from last year.  She is touring with Thou in a few months and the show near by me is going to be a collaborative set.  Can't wait to see it…

Gonna dig deeper into the Tess Parks & Anton Newcombe and Filthy Friends records later tonight.  Both are right up my alley...

Not only is the band fantastic. Paul Kearns is one of the best vocalists I've heard. He actually sings in an epic doom metal band and doesn't sound like Ozzy or Danzig.

@Stuart.T no I have never heard them before… They are really great musicians. But it's weird I don't care for the vocals at all. Maybe their studio stuff sounds different?

I am sure you probably heard Solstice before because they are British. But I really like their vocals a lot.

@Filthy it was the vocals that make them stand out for me, but I can absolutely see they are an acquired taste.

Solstice are a British doom institution! first lp released in 1994 and they are still going. Do you know the bands Warning and 4o Watt sun? they have a similar feel. Patrick Walker (the vocalist in both bands) has a great voice, but you might find it a bit too nasally
