Obviously this was a home game against a mediocre, mid-table team, without much ambition this season

No shots fired, that's just facts.  That's exactly what we are and we are exactly where we deserve to be in the table.

But why in the world would you not start Pogba and Sanchez in that game?!  I officially question Mourinhos sanity at this point.

Edit; Sanchez was still injured, just realized.

@manufc10 it is really weird. Not gloating from my side at all, but he does seem intent on sucking all the fun out of Utd's football. They looked like a team from another club playing in the wrong jerseys.

The tom-toms have it Pogba to move on in January; not playing him could be in effort to not risk an injury, as I imagine they’d be looking to recoup most of what they spent on him.

Couldn't agree more, he needs to go.  We look beyond uninspired.  Sure he isn't the only problem (a sub par back line for one) but we are completely lost at this point.  We didn't deserve to get out of Anfield with a 1-1 draw and it would have been a complete injustice to Liverpool if we did.  I don't care if both of Shakiri's goals were deflections the win was a deserved one.

With that being said though…shouldn't the first "goal" by ManUtd have been allowed?  I saw the replay several times and it didn't look like Lukaku touched that ball in his offside position...I could be wrong.  Also, one positive note for us is that Lindelof did a great job marking Salah.

He didn't touch it but he went to play it and that means he's offside.

Salah was kept quiet but it's the same affect that Suarez, CR7 and Bergkamp used to have. They effectively occupy a defender for the whole game leaving others to roam. It's one of the reasons Shaq had so much space between the lines when he came in.

My feeling is that the actual problem at Utd is the reason why Mourinho is still there at all, the Glazers are uninterested in the development of the club. José is a big name manager doing a very mediocre job and with one or two big name, big money signings but no room to build a team. The Glazers seem happy with that and with the cash they can rake in from the brand, without the team having any real chance of success or forward momentum.

He's explicitly mentioned by The Guardian in there article on JM's sacking.

To be honest if I was Zidane I'd steer well clear. Firstly, that job is in danger of becoming a poisoned chalice unless the owners decide to make some pretty radical changes in their attitude to the running of the club.

Secondly he'd still need a bloody good director of football anyway as his role at RM was basically that of a glorified first team coach. He has no track record when it comes to the sort of re-build that MU need to challenge effectively, even if the Glazer's were interested in investing in that process.

EDIT: Of course, you could bring him in as the caretaker manager and then wait and see…

ANOTHER EDIT: I hear that Scottish guy who did well at Everton a while back is available... David-something?  😉

Apparently they'll appoint a caretaker manager to see this season to its end, and will only hire a new "permanent" manager at a later date.

Edit: Say… Sparky has recently become available for consideration, isn't that right? Other possibilities: Big Sam, Pardew, Warnock if they can pry him away from Cardiff. 😎

                            i stand corrected.

i still hold mourinho highly as a manager. i was a fan of him ever since his first stint at chelsea. he locked horns with SAF and even managed wins against him. back then, i was really hoping that mou would take over once SAF retired.

i standby my opinion that 11 world class/ star/ international players on the pitch can have a mind of their own regardless of what tactics and style mou plays. the blame goes down to the players as well. when you have idiots like lukaku whose first touch ends up on the M25 for sanchez to chase or doing stupid flicks and losing the ball, it's hard to say that the fault goes entirely to mourinho.

I liked Mou at every club he's managed so far (esp. Real Madrid!) but his spell at United is the worst. By far. I dunno what happened to him and his magic but his team performed awfully week after week and it's the right decision finally to get rid of him. Though, if ManUnited wants to return to where they were during SAF's reign they also need to replace some chairmen as well.

Nice how Liverpool just bounced back in this brilliant first half. Stuff that champs are made out of (I know I know, it's still way too early for that). Although not a fan of Klopp I'd love to see LFC finishing at the top this season.

I don't think it's too early to call it, Liverpool definitely look to be favorites to win it this year.
