Not a big horror guy, but I love cosmic horror, and Carpenter's "The Thing" is awesome. I too recognized that image.

Hard to believe The Thing was a box office flop back in '82. Nowadays it's considered one of the benchmarks by which all horror films are measured imo. Practical fx aside, I really love the minimalism and paranoia amongst the characters.

Right–it's an excellent psychological thriller. Reminds me of the ambiguity around Deckard's status as either a human or a replicant in "Blade Runner," difficult to know who is human and who is an alien replicant.

Have you seen the movie Life with Ryan Reynolds? It's written by the same guys who wrote Deadpool and Zombie Land. It's pretty decent imo and bloody disgusting.

That looks very interesting–thanks for the tip, I've added to my watchlist.

Anyone familiar with Paris, Texas? That was the last movie that I think really caught my attention and left me thinking about for days after.

If you like Cormac McCarthy then i'd also recommend The Road which was directed by John Hillcoat. Hillcoat also directed The Proposition which is a decent Western if you like that sort of thing.

As far as films similar to NCFOM, maybe Hell or High Water? I personally didn't care for it too much but some people seem to like it.

"The Road" was shockingly optimistic for McCarthy 😃

In the lingering absence of an adaptation of "Blood Meridian," perhaps try this one by Nick Cave?

@canoeclub I do love NCFOM and I enjoyed "Hell and High Water." It's less stylised than "No Country…" and is a sadder film with a clear social conscience.

I've rewatched Nolan's Batman trilogy this week. Great stuff and I still like Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises way more than The Dark Knight. I'm still feeling it's way too overhyped and the other two are simply better.

I know a lot of reviews trashed this movie but I liked it. If you like sci-fi then this might be up your alley. Pacing was slow but I liked the actors and didn’t think the script was terrible

Vice lools like it is going to be pretty good. It's crazy Bale gained so much weight to play Dick Cheney. He is a pretty versatile actor.
