We spent the day at my brothers. He got all the beers from a friend. They are all supposed to be released today, but retailers have been sitting on them for a while. The green and gold label was a reserve. I think it's the same beer, just some different barrels.

One of the reserve beers was allegedly aged in Elijah Craig barrels the year it was named whiskey of the year. I especially like drinking bourbon barrel stouts when I also like the bourbon that was in the barrels the beer was aged in. I like to think it makes a difference, but I can’t imagine I could taste it. Does make it more fun for me.

Wednesday's lambic share: 1979 Cantillon gueuze (awful, tasted like dirt), 1983 Cantillon Super Gueuze (slight oxidation, but overall good, with good funk still), 2003 De Cam Oude Gueuze (great, with potential to age even longer), 2017 Cantillon Reine Des Pres (more balanced Mamouche lite), 2018 3F Kriekenlambik Toast (fantastic jammy, rich cherry, with vanilla finish, completely still as it should be), 2017 Cantillon Fou Foune (always great to drink a Fou), B1 3F Zenne (all-time level here), B2 3F Zenne (not quite B1, but great). Then, drinking a Weldwerks Chocolate Coconut Achromatic in Zion National Park with a buddy in town.

This is super delicious. Don’t see a lot of Bourbon Barrel Porters. Don’t get much Pecan flavor and just enough of the bourbon barrel.

Is that version two of The Pecanisher? The CHUD is good and this years version of Chocolate Salty Balls is worth a pour as well.

Zhukov was good. Worth a try if you haven’t had it. A good basic stout without a lot of adjuncts

Speaking of which, I’ve cut my beer budget drastically in order to fund some high end purchases (from a certain Japanese denim brand and American jewellery brand, so no surprises there).

Been looking at quality to volume to price ratio and have discovered that my basic beer needs are covered by Yeti Imperial Stout which fits the above description and is cheap as chips, Saison Dupont which represents authentic Belgian quality and eccentricity for ridiculously few beer tokens, and Stone Ruination double IPA which isn’t all that but is miles more cost effect than any other DIPA you care to mention.

Stone also makes a DIPA called Fear Movie Lions which is also very good and budget friendly.
