It would be tough to have a cut that was accessible to all.  I can't squeeze into the thigh on 666, and hang out of the top of a 777…everyone has their story.  For that reason, I'd say go with a classic 634!  The cut is the most universal (though current iterations have gotten slimmer in the thigh...ouch.)  The hipsters who can't hang with a straight cut might learn a thing or two if they could bring themselves to buy in. (And this from someone who strongly prefers a good taper).

The hem on the 634 would swallow my feet [emoji53]

I’m definitely a 555 guy,but maybe the answer is jeans and a shirt,or jacket or CPO from the denim. Similarly to what was recently done recently with the special black denim. This way one or the other might work for you. Also maybe some kind of incentive to get the set.

I'm in for any cut of a forum jean, so long at it's the 888.

Also, let me state that I have little interest in patches or pockets.  If these are the special tweaks a forum jean gets, and I don't yet have that fabric, then I'll buy of course, but it won't do anything for me.  I'd be far more interested in a special treatment, or fabric.  Like, a loomstate but with a post dunk in Giles' bathtub or some such.  Or an overdye in boddingtons or whatever you brits drink.

Let me also say that you should absolutely not listen to a word I say.  9 times out of 10 my favorite items end up in the outlet (I still buy them 3 min after release), so I'm about as #unpopularopinions as you can possible get and still be interested in coming back here.

Since it is clear no one cut will suit all of us, maybe we can agree to start off with a widely accommodating cut (is 634 the right one?) and we each get our pair modified to our own preference.  If we do it with a really unique fabric and details (arcs, pockets bags, patch, GAH rivets) it will remain ‘the forum denim’ regardless of our individual tailoring. It may provide a good basis for a thread showingcasing different combos, fades and evos.

              Just my 0.02!

              The journey is the objective.

Pick the cut, that's the bastard….

If the goal is to address a wide range of customers with a single cut i would guess the best thing to do is weed out all extremes (high rise, low rise, super slim, wide hem, …). This would leave a jean with a medium rise, some room in the thigh (not like recent 666 iterations!) and a moderate taper. Something along the lines of Pronto's tapered cut models (PIHXHS, PIH5DCT, PIH10ANT). Here are the numbers for my personal pair  😃

                  W:  33
                  FR:  11
                  RR:  15
                  TH:  12,25
                  KN:  8,5
                  H:  7,5

heavyweigth fabric (20oz+) with special character, indigo wabash pocket bags, tonal stitching and a forum patch  😎

I think we should have some different coloured arcs not just tonal. Tonal has been done. Also what are the chances of having some kinda GOOD ART buttons or at least the top button. If we are going to do a forum jean lets make it proper special.

Regarding the custom patch design: how about adding the member's forum name or a custom name on the patch for every order? That'll make each pair even more individual and really special. BTW the 555 cut has my vote.

More thoughts on the forum exclusive jeans as I seem to have woken up in the middle of the night for no reason with these thoughts rolling around in my brain:

                            • since Giles is the face of the forum and the 666 is his cut, this should be the cut. OR…

                            • pick a cut that came about with significant forum input (888 comes to mind), OR…

                            • if we’re trying to find a happy middle ground cut, what about bringing back the Beatle Buster? A slightly slimmer 634 cut with a slightly higher rise, named after a former prominent forum member.

                            • the forum should collectively brainstorm a new denim into existence.

                            • whatever the outcome, IWHWIH positively HAS to be the model number.

Can’t imagine the beatle buster making a popular come back. Tight top block and a large hem. That’s a nope from me. 666 again is tough one to please the masses because of the tight thighs.

I’m starting to think the forum denim idea is doomed to fail. No consensus on the cut because we all have different body types, and no consensus on details like how the patch should look, color of the arcs, type of denim, fancy pocket bags, etc. Not to mention the risk to Giles. I know we’re just spitballing ideas but this isn’t as simple as a forum T-shirt.

Here’s another idea, how about a forum flannel, like the Kanreki shirt that was made for Giles’ 60th? Giles could get some fabric swatches for us to look at and then all we’d have to determine is weight, pattern and whether or not it would be a work shirt or western. I think IH’s flannels are second to none because the patterns/colors are amazing. Not sure if it’s less risky to make shirts versus denim though

i think a poll should be created with all the possible features and let people decide . might be the most prudent and save us all the hassle.

If I start a poll and 100 people have input, we'll get 101 different answers.  Overall, I think the idea is a good one and we will start a thread for it soon.  A completely new denim is out of the question, but we do have a denim that we have not used outside of Asia, which I think we will use.

We're likely to come up with 2 cuts and take pre-orders (like we do with the DWC jeans).

If we get enough orders, it's a goer, if we don't refunds will be given.
