Random Rants

Agreed. Everything from diet to the technology to public policy is a factor. I'm hoping we can get past this lull in human advancement. Our potential as a species is nearly limitless. If you don't believe me, consider that we completely take for granted on a continuous basis things that would literally have been considered miraculous centuries (heck, decades even) ago such as the fact that I just got off a giant flying machine and am now wirelessly communicating thoughts instantaneously across the planet.

This is all too true. And @Stuart.T nailed it with 30-60yr olds needing to interact with the young.
-
Literacy and numeracy performance is also very poor. My son is 3, he attends preschool and they advised us that he is the only child there on the days that he attends that they can have a verbally communicative relationship with.
This isn't irreversible. We just need to take responsibility as societies.
I believe the key is discipline from parents and teachers. Today people are too soft on them and it shows in the result.

When I was a kid the slightly older lads roamed the streets on the way to the pub, they taught us skateboarding, intoxicants, and also stopped us being idiots to an extent. Opened our eyes to subcultures,
now everyone slightly older than a kid has, can afford a car..
Now younger Kids have mopeds and knives…..

That is so true.
I'm not a luddite. I can see the absolute positive impact that technology CAN have.
Anyone who's studied psychology will have learned that the majority of funding for research in the field has been provided by media and marketing. Is that because people that want to market unnecessary products are concerned about our mental wellbeing or are they looking to develop new ways of disassociating us emotionally from our money?
Industrial, steam, electrical, computing, micro/nano technology, and AI every technological revolution has been driven by commerce and captains of industry or military advancements. Philanthropists or self interest?
Anyone aged over 40 remember how computers and robots were going to liberate our time? Now I just see people with a pad working on the train at 6am and 9pm. We are indeed liberated!
I do fucking unapologetically love a rant!

@gaseousclay you know what's funny? My grumpiness is inverted. Previous generations would have moaned 'turn it down it's too loud' 'I can't understand a word they are singing, you could in my day' 'I don't understand this noise you call music'. I'm saying the opposite. Young people don't shock me, and they should. Be loud! Create music that gives me a headache and that I don't understand! Stop being beige and bland. And talk to each other using words, face to face. Making friends is good. Read a book, visit places, do stuff and learn from having fun, not from Google.
Something is wrong when an old git has to tell youngsters to do things rather than 'stop that you damn kids'. That said, kids, please stop stabbing each other and throwing acid at each other. Play nice eh?

In the process of searching for a suitably large bass bin for my new house, fully expecting the young couple next door to ask me to turn it down.

@sabergirl @Matty123 @organisys why thank you for the kind yet deluded words…my cult is now recruiting, we have excellent terms and conditions, and the pension scheme is great. Applications on the back of a postcard please.
I come off as an arrogant, self opinionated prick sometimes...I'm aiming for 'All the time'. You have to set goals.

@madmonday excellent post friend. I'd advise anyone to do ASIST suicide prevention training. The highest cause of death in the UK for men aged between 20 and 45.

Yesterday my wife brought the family car to the mechanic, since the engine didn't sound very healty since a week or so.
Today I had a phonecall from them, telling me that the engine gearbox if fucked up and needs to be replaced. A new one from VW costs 2.600 €, a replacement from an alternative manufactorer will still cost 1.300 €. Plus work hours and a new coupling this whole mess will set me back at least 2.000 € and this right before the new m65 and the Kersey Western will hit IHUK.
Fekking lousy timing, since we need the car more then another jacket and western shirt. Damn it. ::)
-
Hate when that happens. Brought my car in for a simple oil change, had an oil leak and $450 later it was fixed. Of course it was when IH was releasing tons of cool stuff.
Yep. I’ve missed many IH drops due to unforeseen circumstances like car repairs or medical bills for my son.

Lying in the most uncomfortable hotel bed ever listening to my roommate suck air through his face. I have to be on site for the first of 8, 12 hour shifts in 5 hours.
