I've come to the conclusion that I'm not a fan of complications and I find the chronometer on this especially disturbing, probably because it's a relatively showy watch already. Luckily they do one without which I find very attractive indeed…

EDIT: Unfortunately another conclusion I've come to is that branding on the face can destroy the attraction of any watch for me and having a fifteen character name cluttering up the dial makes this entire brand a no-no.

Yeah, I agree with the seemingly common opinion that the old C.Ward logo and placement is better than the current version.

I’ll add that it’s almost twice the price of the Hamilton Mechanical Field watch, which may now sail up as a new favourite given that I’vr decided that mechanical might be fun.

I have been eyeing Hamilton's myself but never realised they are owned by Swatch, hence the larger production and wider distribution now.

I'd definitely go mechanical too, though I've read a few reviews of faulty second hands after a few months of wear. I want to spend between £400 and £500 and don't want to make a mistake at that price

Honestly if you’re going to spell out “Christopher Ward” on the dial, you might as well go full retard and put his middle name, his childhood nickname and the password for his iPhone in there too.

So I finally went for a Hamilton Khaki officers field mechanical. Very basic but good looking watch imo. Got 15% off at Jura watches as a first order, so was £241 all in. Pics once it arrives!

I'm looking forward to it. It's going to be an everyday watch, so I didn't want to spend more than about £400, so with the discount I think this is a bargain. I really wanted a mechanical watch too to fit with my sensibilities. I think I'll swap out the strap for a NATO band and have found some tasty looking mil-spec + versions that are on my list!

I've heard the Phenomenato straps are excellent. I usually use ToxicNatos because I like their hardware.

The seatbelt material ones are my current favorite.

@DougNg thanks for the info I'll have a look. Deluca ballistic nylon look pretty good. They get good reviews and the nylon is meant to be very robust.

're my Hamilton, I've been advised that an order was placed with Hamilton and it's being MtO…2 to 3 weeks for delivery. I didn't trust Jura, so contacted Hamilton, and yep, being MtO. It's only a £300 watch for goodness sake!

Here's an affordable quartz GMT I picked up from watches.com, one of a series of 50. I like it so far. Screw down crown, PVD, non-reflective sapphire crystal, and a lumed bezel.

I work remotely so GMT hand is set to headquarters' TZ.

Can you keep us updated on how the PVD holds up?

I have a couple guns with PVD coatings and they're holding up like shit. There have been a couple interesting watches with PVD coatings but I've been reticent on picking them up because of my experience with PVD.

Will do–the metal is stainless FWIW.
