I've always liked the look of the Finisterre waterproof duffle bag, which is made by Ortlieb. It's got backpack straps, so can be worn in a couple of ways. Carryology had a behind the design feature, which is worth a read if you're interested in the bag.

@mclaincausey the only backpack that I know of with a suit carrier is the Henty Wingman.

Do you need a 55 litre bag? I tend to find that what I carry in my luggage expands to fill the available space, but if I'm being ruthless, I can travel for a week on something half that size.

They make a similar one to that suit carrier that is a tube with shoe storage in one end, then a garment bag wraps around the outside, but it's not a backpack. And also similar to that one, not spacious enough to really be an all in one for 3-5 day trips.

55L includes the 15L detachable backpack–given gym outfit, a few days of clothing, 2 or 3 pair of shoes, electronic and business gear, etc, I do believe I could fill that, though it is certainly a lot of volume.

        Think it, be it.

Ah, you're not as much of a minimalist when it comes to travel as I am. 🙂

You're in Denver? Topo Designs, who're based there, offer the Travel Bag, which is a 40 litre, carry-on bag. Some of their other designs can be clipped onto it.

I actually prefer the older style, which was made in the US rather than Vietnam. Havn have a few left.

The Slicks 25 backpack is available with a suit carrier.

Topo is being made in Vietnam now? That makes me pretty sad. Being made in the US made them much more attractive to me.

It will be the first time, but I foresee no problems.  I see people take way bigger bags than this into the cabin.

This might turn into a Random Rant for me. I saw a woman arrive late and take someone else’s bag out of the overhead bin to put her oversized roller in. She left the other bag in the aisle and played dumb as to who’s bag it was. Luckily, a stewardess called her out and embarrassed her in front of the entire plane.

Topo is still made in Colorado to my knowledge

Edit: tech shells are Vietnam and insulation pieces Canada. Bags remain Colorado-made.

Edit 2: contradictory information on their page, but it looks like a mix now on the bags place of manufacture. At any rate the travel bag didn't do it for me when I inspected it at the flagship store Saturday. Nor did the X-Pac Klettersack unfortunately.

Hopefully they gate checked her bag. Carry-ons should be charged before checked bags. The economics as they stand now drive these bad behaviors. It's already more convenient to carry on, instead of capturing value for that convenience they make it even worse by charging for checked bags, such that people pack massive bags and force them into the overhead compartments, sometimes more than once.

Veilance bags on sale @ EastDane now. Of course when I asked a week ago, they told me no sales in the immediate future. 🤨

Oh well! I’m super happy with my V1 Nomin anyway.

If you’re on the fence, go for it. They are both amazing bags.

Carryology have reviewed the Arc'teryx LEAF DryPack 25, and liked it.

It's bombproof, waterproof, and how can you not love a bag that can be used as a floatation device? 😉

Downsides? It's heavy, costs $630, and is only available in camouflage.

I have two of their products and they are bombproof. Active .mil contracts also from units that really beat the crap out of their gear in way harsher environments than I'll ever be in.

                                          https://www.aersf.com/travel-pack-2-black

It comes close to the versatility that would spur an all in one travel bag adoption for me but I don't like the idea of having to ruck all my clothing and toiletries in a business bag (or having so spacious a bag as to look as though that's what's happening) to actual meetings: if only they made one of these that clamshelled, where the upper half of the clamshell fully detached into a laptop daypack: this would be the perfect travel bag. That Osprey I posted comes close but a bit too spacious to Grahame's point and also very outdoorsy and unprofessional in appearance.

The reason I'm researching this area is I love the idea of not dragging a bag around and being free to run up escalators more freely, for example.

                                          Think it, be it.

I still think that the Topo Designs Travel Bag (30 litres) with a 3-Day Briefcase or Commuter Briefcase would be a good combination. Both of those can be attached to the Travel Bag, if you want an all-in-one solution.

Another alternative pairing would be a Mission Workshop Arkiv backpack (the Radian looks good), with their new Transit Arkiv. The latter is a laptop briefcase that can be attached to the packs, or used separately.

Unfortunately they're not cheap, and have an Urban Tactical sort of look.

If you want to get really spendy, how about the SDR Traveller D3 duffle, an M1 Messenger, and their three piece Pack System?

The M1 is 17" x 11", so a bit bigger than the large travel cube. If it wasn't overfilled, it'd probably occupy the same sort of space in the duffle, so you could probably fit it in with the three cubes from the Pack System.

                                            OK, it'd cost about $1200… :o

Tom Bihn used to offer the Hero's Journey, which was a two-in-one backpack. It's been retired, but you might be able to dig one up from somewhere.
