Condolences to England. I really wanted it to "come home," though were I superstitious, all that premature talk of such would have given me pause.
Some friends are trekking across France for the next month, so I tempted to pull for them just so that they'll have the experience, but I struggle not to pull for the scrappy underdog.
Congratulations to Croatia and good luck in the finals. Your mettle and endurance impress.

Both England and Belgium will be playing just a smidgeon harder than last time they met.

The third place final is a joke. The result is meaningless for fans and it must feel like an empty exercise for players who have just lost the possibility of playing in a the actual final.
The national leagues have made finishing second (and third and fourth) a virtue through prize money and participation in the UCL and the like, but in cup competitions, and especially the World Cup, first is everything, second is nothing. Third and fourth place shouldn’t even be an issue.
