That was a pretty fun end to the game!  Crazy World Cup so far.  Gives me (probably unwarranted) hopes and dreams for the England squad!

Was surprised and disappointed to see that perfectly legitimate single-footed sliding tackles are now considered a foul if your opponent happens to fall over the ball in the process.  When EPL referees decided to make legitimate two-footed sliding tackles a red card offense a few years back, it was pretty shocking to me… but I kind of got it.  But one-footed, crunching sliding tackles are my absolute favourite part of playing football.  Especially here in the US where pretty much no one does 'em and you get to send some poor guy unexpectedly flying and come away with the ball.  It warms the very cockles of my heart.  (Or did, when I was playing with any regularity.)  I guess 'winning the ball' doesn't count for diddly squat anymore.

Okay…we did it...but terrible wait attitude all along this game...not the first time...2 years ago after a wonderful victory against Spain we produced the exactly same game against Portugal as tonight...and not make it...

They were poor and should have been better than Denmark the whole way. But they were good in the group stage, so maybe a comeback against Russia?

Me, too! I think they deserved to advance overall as Croatia was pretty unimpressive yesterday. Maybe Argentina was just that weak in the group stage.

The game was terrible IMO for the vast majority of it.  First four minutes started with a bang,  Extra time penalty and the PK shootout made it somewhat worth it but other than that the game itself was one of the more boring matches of the tournament.  Croatia looked horrible.
