No, have talked to him many times on the phone and met him earlier in the year at the Good Art foundry opening party…I was supposed to do this then, but ran out of time, so I rearranged for the next time I was in LA.

The high school I teach at is having exams and today the seniors had a major one. When this happens we empty the school of freshmen and sophomores by sending them on a 10km hike in the foothills above where I live. Normally I’ll accompany a class but my knee isn’t up to a 10km cross country walk yet, so I got the job of ascending the first top on the route and manning a check point there. It’s a gentle 30min ascent from my front door and the weather was nice (read 10C and windy, pretty good for spring).

It all got a bit hectic at the check point, around 400 16-18 year olds went through it in the space of three hours but I got some pics on the way up at 8am while it was still quiet.

The view to the south/south east:

Typical Scandi “kos”. The Norwegian bit says “hug me”:

The view to the west. I live in the burbs about 13km from town. What you see in the distance is town. To the left of these pics you can make out the runway at the airport. 737's land there all day long, believe it or not.

                  More inspirational wood art [emoji849]

As I was nearing the top this fekker showed up. There’s a major military airbase next to the civilian airport. This bugger was obviously due in there. It was loud and huge. I only had my compact camera so no sense of scale but I assure you all, it didn’t look like it should be flying. Anyone know what type of aircraft?

Thank you. I knew someone would have an idea. Pretty distinctive tail on her. A proper beast of a plane it was.

Thank you and my pleasure. It’s not my intention to brag, but this is literally my back yard. It is pretty tame compared to the mountains which are only a short drive away. Having a sunny day makes it all look much better too.

Regarding the plane, Wikipedia doesn’t mention the Norwegian Air Force as having Globemasters which leads me to suspect it is a NATO Heavy Airlift machine. This would make sense as there is a massive underground NATO listening station 30 mins drive from where I live.

There’s an accreditation board for international qualifications in Norway that approved my bachelors and post grad certification. It was eighteen years ago but I can’t remember it being difficult or controversial.

I’m still trying to improve my Norwegian wherever I can and understand the in’s and out’s of the language better. I didn’t have much formal training in it when I first moved here. But I was speaking Norwegian well and able to converse in most situations after about a year and a half of living and working in the country.

I came here with the intention of settling down eighteen years ago. I’ve never lived in another city or town as long as I’ve lived in Bodø. I have a wife, an ex-wife and enough children here to start a basketball team so I’m pretty settled. I’ve no intention of returning to «the hostile environment» of the UK.

Both. The older boys can speak English fluently, I speak both Norwegian and English to the little ones and my wife. My wife, naturally speak mostly Norwegian but does read to the small ones in English. When we’re alone my wife and I switch between languages.

It’s probably not the ideal pedagogic method as there isn’t a strict system but they receive English at school from the age of six and are surrounded by English language media already.

Bi-langual from the start - that's a big advantage mate!.. Don't worry about the standard methods of upbringing, an extra language = huge perk… Plus, at that age, kids pick up a new one like we pick up change...
