WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY (PICS)
-
@Seul my condolences. Hope your post funeral walk led you to a post funeral drink.
I'm mainly just off horizontal, nursing a septorhynoplasty (wonky hooter with a diverted septum fix) today. Did the same yesterday and will certainly be doing more tomorrow.

Wow talk about adding insult to injury. What a shitty day….
Condolences to you and your family.

Ok- the silver men pic we are teeming, or pouring a heat. The ladle man has a radio and is communicating with the crane operator(that's me) to line me up with the tube the steel pours down. the brick lining the tube is about as wide as a diner plate so it's not as easy as it sounds.
The top photo shows the 140 rolling mill undergoing maintenance.
The second and third photo depict the mould prep building where molds are assembled on rail cars prior to teeming. After pouring they return here and broken down and the cycle starts over. The dogs on the crane are used to set the moulds.
The next 2 photos are of a stiff leg crane, or stripper crane. After teeming the steel is cooled in the moulds for whatever time is called for by it's chemistry. The stripper operator removes the ingot from the mould and at that time the ingot is tagged with heat number and destination.
The last photo is the 206 rolling mill, meaning it can roll a plate 206 inches wide and is used for military ships and making of large tanks or vessels. Still one of the widest mills in the world. -
Wow, those photos are amazing. What an industry

Seconded
Also @steelworker got to thank you for sharing these amazing pictures today as they left me reminiscing on my home town, The Steel City - Sheffield where the steel works of the Sheffield Forgemasters still thunders on; https://www.sheffieldforgemasters.com/sfm/home -
Really astonishing images @steelworker Thanks for sharing and explaining.
On a more genteel note my middle son Sebastian (10) wants to see if he can act so we’re at a casting for a TV-drama by NRK (the Norwegian BBC). Not something I anticipated spending my Sunday on… but fun.

Good luck Sebastian
